Instrument cluster plastic

Post by Snow Descent »

Friends, anyone know what type of plastic the instrument cluster bezel is made out of? The light green part that the gauges screw to. Mine is cracked around one of the mounting screws and I'm wondering about cement vs epoxy.

I would just be guessing but I would say acrylic for the type of plastic if you mean the see-through circular disks covering the gauge. I think the black plastic parts that surround the light bulbs are ABS but not sure. Just going by colour, texture and hardness.

I'm interested in the big injection molded part, not the lenses. ABS would be my guess since I know it's used widely, doesn't seem like a polyethylene, PVC or PP. If it's ABS, I could use cement to glue the little bolt boss back on the back. I'm kinda thinking some plastic epoxy would be good though, to build it up a little. Tough fix, the mounting screw has broken a hole the size of the head through the face of the bezel.

Oh-Sorry-I misunderstood. I would think ABS.

Just to close this up I ended up using JB Weld 50132 epoxy. I have not screwed it back in yet, but it does seem to have bonded the pieces pretty well.Image
