1980-1991 TF727 Throttle Valve Linkage (aka "Kickdown Linkage") Bushing Specification

Post by Dr.Bob »

OK, folks; maybe someone has found replacements for these, as they are no longer available from Jeep/Mopar:

Part # J3220413 Bushing (#2 in diagram)
Part # J3220125 Bushing (#11 and 13 in diagram)

Image

These retain and provide a pivot-point for the Throttle-Valve linkage from the carburetor to the TF727 transmission. The design of these clips is different from the normal transmission-linkage bushings, as the ends of the rods don't have a groove, but a tapered end that is retained by "fingers" inside the bushing, which makes it act more like a retainer. Without those fingers, that rod would just pop out. If it used a regular transmission-linkage bushing, the nylon step inside the bushing would be compressed by the taper and cause too much friction for the linkage to move freely.

The lower pivot bushing (#2 in diagram) does not have fingers, as it does not retain that shaft, but just serves as a pivot-point.

Is anyone familiar with this type of retainer used in positions #11 and #13? Has anyone found suitable replacements?

Here is a video where I describe (towards the end) the differences between these bushings and the other bushings in the transmission shift-linkages:

Did you ever find an alternate replacement part number for the J3220125? I'm looking for the same for my Eagle. Have you tried asking a local transmission shop or two??

There are no more old-school transmission shops around here anymore. :(

Unfortunately, I have not found a source for them.

I made do with cleaning the old ones well, as seen in that video above.

Sorry to bump, but did you ever find this part? I’m currently hunting for the same piece.

Take a look at ACE hardware in their bolts/fastners section. They have a variety of these kinds of parts and you might find one that 'works'.
