1990 GW to 1987 jaguar mirrors

Post by Jdm1990gw »

This is more of a funny story. So I seen a forum on here of doing a jaguar power mirror conversion. My power mirror switch was missing and I can’t find another one and my mirror glass is in poor condition anyway so I went on eBay and bought everything. FYI the Jag mirrors look exactly the same. I installed them yesterday and they work perfectly. The funny part about this story is when I took my door panel off I found my power mirror switch. Even seemed to work.

Please post some pictures, if you have any! I’m very interested in how Jag switch looks on the door and how you mounted it

I was considering replacing mirrors with Jag ones, but decided to give stock ones a chance.

After rebuilding the switch the game back to life! Mostly though, drivers mirror would not move horizontally. I was lazy and decided that it was faulty mirror, got new one, replaced it - still nothing. So second rebuild of the switch and now I have extensively tested it, so should work - still haven’t got a chance to put it back.

I must say that rebuilding that switch is just horrible, I don’t know why they went into so much trouble to save 1 wire by making that damned thing so complex. Jag was doing ok with a 4 wire setup And to make it even worse that mirror switch was used on SJ jeeps only, so finding a good one now or very hard

I do not have pictures yet nor do I have door panels. Well I do have door panels but they are garbage and I’m going to order new ones. If you click on the link above it’s pictures from “oldmanwag”s install. The jag mirrors I bought did not come with the black plastic base so I used my GW original ones and they are exactly the same. Only difference is the amount of wires and the switches which I like better anyway.

That's a pretty cool use of other mirrors, plus now you can clean up the original switch and keep it handy in case anyone else needs one or for a spare.

I have a set of 81-87 Jag xj6 mirrors to swap to mine. The angle is different, but not enough to notice. At least the mirror motors work.

I used the original grand wagoneer black plastic base with the jag mirrors and it looks great. Maybe there is a slight difference in angle but I don’t see it

I also had to swap motors out of the passenger side jag mirror and that mirror is really east to take apart and put back together unlike the grand wagoneer mirror where the glass just breaks if you try to take it apart
