Power Window Lubes

Post by 1977ChiefLS3 »

I have a half dozen power window motors that are good, but need cleaning, paint, etc. do doing that now as make ready for upcoming projects. I know the recommendation to lube the flex track is Sil-Glyde, but what lube is recommended for the motor's metal worm gear / round plastic gear? Standard lithium grease or other? Could not find anything in the TSM ... Thanks

I'd use marine bearing grease.

Supposedly the EP additives added to greases and oils designed for metal-to-metal contact (gear oils and chassis grease) are not good for plastics. A synthetic grease is recommended ... what's wrong with SylGlide?

White lithium grease in the spray can is meant for general purpose use. Comes in a tube too. Should be ok. I'd not use the wheel bearing grease.

I use synthetic marine bearing grease in my RC cars. In 8 years, I've never had any issues with plastic deterioration.
