I believe the larger flat bracket is from intake manifold to AC

Look through this for exact placement, if i had a pic from my jeep I'd send it but this was easier.https://oljeep.com/gw/78_tsm/1978_JeepS ... mplete.pdf

I hope the link works. It should be the entire manual from 1978, the last year of the 401. look at page 151. This is not an assembly manual, but it gives you an Idea of bracket orientation.

Brackets are pretty much the same on 360's and 401's. except A/C I believe.

It looks like you might need a more recent manual if the A/C pump is a sanden??(sp) unit.

Thanks I was looking through the 82 TSM but hadn’t seen any pictures of that YET lol
Mine is still the York compressor

Edit!! I did see a couple picture that helped with the alt adjustment arm and the large bracket !

I still have the short about 2 inch piece of strap that I believe came off with the alt !

The short piece goes on the back of the alt. I'll try to grab a pic in the morning.

Assembly Assistance

Thanks brother that worked !!
I see what I need !!

in the TSM I found enough of a picture on the intro page for the Engine section, one a picture on GrandWagoneer.com
The large trapezoidal bracket mounts between the bottom of the large aluminum AC mount and passenger side of the timing cover the alt adjustment slide gets the lower timing cover bolt , the small strap is a support for the alt to one of the large aluminum mount

So a question , 401 vs 360 or late vs early model
The bolt that goes through the top of the Alt that it swings on, from my 360 is 3/8 the hole that it matches up with on the 401 is a 7/16
Is there a difference in early vs late or 360 vs 401,
The 7/16 doesn’t fit through the Alt , the long 2” spaced or the brackets but it does match the head Image
Shadow might be bad

Yes, early vs. late there are a few accessory mount hole size differences.

I just drilled the alternator hole a bit larger. The case is aluminum so it drills out easily.

You'll might also find that the exhaust manifold bolts on the 401 may all be the same size. On the 360's sometimes the center holes were larger and the outer holes were a size smaller.

Agree. Alternators cases are cheap and disposable.
