Post by hawgwild »

I do not think that it exists... it is a cork gasket with neoprene front and rear pieces, and to add to hardship you still need to add a little dab of silicone on the corner of the front and rear.
On my last project for the 86 when I redid the timing chain cover, it seems that the PO used silicone all around

Try different years. The 360 didn't change at all from when it was introduced in the early 70's to when it was discontinued after 1991. Some parts stores may have it listed for only a certain set of years but it will work. Also try the AMC 304 and 401 in other vehicles. Same layout as the 360 so they all use the same gasket.

But it may be that no one makes a one piece gasket for the AMC any more. It's not like there are a whole lot of AMC engines still running these days.

A quick look at Summit Racing for just the AMC 360 (not model specific) shows only 4 piece gaskets. So you may be out of luck.

Perfection is the enemy of the good.

I have found these cork/rubber gaskets to work fine. Typically I glue them to the pan with gasket cement and use a thin layer of sealant on the top surface. I'd follow the gasket mfr's instructions and put a dab of sealant at each corner.

I've managed to put off the oil pan gasket on all but one of my projects until I had the engine out for a rebuild. It is so very much easier to install the 4 piece gasket with the engine on a stand away from everything and turned upside down.

The one time I installed it in the Jeep, I cemented the gasket to the under side of the block and dabbed the RTV at each corner before putting the bare pan up to be bolted in. No problems with leaks on any of them.

I glue them to the block first with something like Gaskacinch or some such since it's flat and use sillycone on the pan side since it usually isn't.

to glue the cork part: I use a bead of permatex #2 works well.
I never heard of a 1 piece gasket for our engines, and I have been an FSJ owner since 1983... and a jeep DIY since 1984.... ah, ah, ah....

yes it is a bit of challenge to reinstall the oil pan gasket, ideally studs would help to line up the pan... and on latter years (after 79) you have to fight the exhaust from the driver's side

+1 to what Letank said. Used permatex / rtv on my rebuild when it was installed. Gaskets were from Rockauto if memory serves, working fine. You can get the same gaskets elsewhere though.

My last replacement was with Permatex "Right Stuff"--instructions were "smear it on thoroughly, bolt it up and drive away--no waiting for cure."
