230 Tornado engine parts sources?

Post by offthebeatenpath »

My '65 J200 has the original 230 Tornado engine in it, and I'd like to keep it stock for the moment, mostly just to keep it running so I can drive it and work on the other odds and ends. I've found a couple sources for 230 parts, but I'm wondering if I've missed any. Does anyone have any other sources besides these?

BJ's has a few parts, but not much. Ebay obviously has some hit or miss stuff too.

If you need 230 engine parts, Kanter is a good source - https://www.kanter.com/index.aspx

The 230 is an interesting engine but was something of a problem child for Kaiser. It had a fairly short run, so support is a bit limited. You'll have to be resourceful to keep one going. The M715 miliary truck http://m715.com/vb/index.php also uses this engine (with some mnor differences) so members there may be able to point to some sources.

Search on the mother ship may prove helpful and interesting. https://www.bing.com/search?q=site%3Aif ... HC+Tornado

I hadn't checked Kanter, I'll look into that.
I went about 10-12 pages deep into Google before I called it quits. I started finding more of the South American parts, which is certainly intriguing, but far from cost effective.

Take this gem for example, a triple carb setup?!?!?!?!?

I am not sure that this intake would be really usefull for a standard Tornado engine, this setup was developed in Argentina for the "Torino" sporty car which got an improved version of the Tornado engine.

BTW kudos for trying to keep the Tornado engine, it's an interesting engine, first OHC engine in an American mass production car

Those were inline sixes, right?
I did the four-carb setup on a couple of CB550’s... that was enough. It wasn’t bad, but all the parts are so dang small!

Yah. The inline fours aren't bad once you get them dialed in. The sixes...50% more pieces. No way.
