the ball socket on the clutch linkage of my gladiator separated. If I recall the was a retainer clip similar to what is on a carb linkage. Ive tried a Google search for the clip with out success. Does anyone know of where I can find one and/or the proper name for it? The socket shaft coming from the clutch pedal is about 1/2 inch in diameter.

'69 but which engine? Linkage is different depending. There is a picture for both the 232 and 327/350 in the Jeep J-Series parts book here: http://oljeep.com/edge_parts_man.html
Look at pages Gr 5 - L1 and Gr 5 - L3 resp. The clip for the ball socket was never supplied separately by Jeep. These ball and sockets rod ends are a problem for all Jeeps that have them - suggest you replace with a superior commercially-available part. My experience is that rod diameter for the J-truck linkage is larger in diameter than the rod used for the CJs, so the ball joints for CJs are not compatible.
It's not a clip that keeps these joints together. The socket is crimped around the ball, and the socket wears until the ball falls out. Even if you could add a clip, it would not fix it. You can kludge a repair by drilling through the socket and putting a bolt through with some washers and a lock nut, but it won't last and won't be as smooth as a real rod end.
I suggest you repair the rod using commercial rod ends known as Heim joints. https://www.mcmaster.com/2458k35 There are lots of different styles of Heim joints here; I linked to a typical one. If you need to replace the ball joint on the long rod, I suggest you grind out the weld that holds the ball joint to the rod to remove the joint, thread the end of the original rod and thread on a replacement Heim joint. This process has worked well to repair the clutch linkage on both my CJ-6 and J10.

Thanks for the info. The truck has a 232. I qwas under the misguided impression that there was a clip similar to the type on the carb linkage. I’ve already used a heim joint to repair the fork rod. I’m sure I can cob something together.

This has happened to both my FSJs. So I just built new linkage using all thread and 3/8” heim joints (they may be 7/16, can't recall off hand). WAY smooth action, still adjustable, and will last ages.
After my last post,I looked over the linkage again. It appears the socket end coming from the pedal, is 7/16” rod. A studded female heim joint should do the trick
