My 79 automatic T400 jeep doesnt start in nuetral & searching the manual shows it has a column shift & the switch is located around the base of the column, my jeep is T bar floor shift, where would I find the switch on this. Thanks
As to the switch that you have now,...follow the wires from the starter solenoid on the inner fender. The safety switch wont allow the solenoid to engage if not in park/neutral....will your jeep start in PARK?
Darren, I ham having chat with a guy that used to work for AMC Jeep. There is not much info on the OZ and NZ FSJs in his huge stash. Have you had the tranny out in recent time? Are you sure you should be able to start in Neutral for a 1979 vehicle in Australia? I am pretty sure you will need to get to the switch or switch assembly on the shifter to determine what is really going on.
Ive had the jeep near 12 months, 5000 km since restoration & PO told me gearbox was fully reco'd at the time. What got me looking into it is that at a certain rev range the gears jump back & forth & the tsm says that it could be the neutral start switch needs adjusting & since this it dont start in neutral I figure this a good place to start. Im pretty certain it should start in nuetral. The jeep starts in park. Thanks
