I don't think you are going to care much about the HP number, but that TORQUE is going to make your pants tight! I put a stroked Caddy 529 in my brother's Blazer years ago, geeze what a tractor!

I had intended to provide full video to document the process of converting the mopar/AMC trans into 1 4x4 440 727, but the gopro didn't record. So for anyone following this project, check out this awesome video that gave me the info I needed:

Yeah, I'm looking forward to the 500~ftlb of torque. That'll give the old girl a bit of grunt when we're offroading for sure. :-bd

We had an issue with 1 piston ring and had to order a replacement. Engine assembly on hold until it arrives. Ordered the ignition setup, which is your standard "1-wire" HEI setup but with a stock-a-like distributor and external coil. Should be plenty to get the engine running until we swap over to fuel injection.

I went back and updated previous posts with pics. I also have video of the entire process that is being compiled, but Sony MovieStudio is fighting back.

So the engine is mostly together. Need to finish one side's rocker assembly and toss the intake on it. I'm getting pretty excited. This sunday I'll be dropping the jeep and the drivetrain off at my buddy's shop about an hour away where the actual fitment of the motor to the truck will happen. I was out in Pittsburgh, PA and decided to stop at Summit Racing in Summit County, Ohio, on my way home. While I was there I picked up some critical parts for the build, including some summit T-shirts and a chrome dipstick. And some less important parts, like a fuel pump and a full set of body bushings.

Next update I hope will have completed engine pics and maybe some more progress. Stay tuned.

So we loaded up the F350 and the Wagoneer and hauled it all up to my buddy's fabrication shop, about 45 minutes north. We didn't get a chance to really work on it at all, but this is the first time the engine and the Wagoneer have been in the same area together. Very excited. We all sat down at the kitchen table and laid out how we see this project going. (By we all, I mean me, my wife, my engine builder helper friend, and my fabricator friend) We decided that since the truck was so far torn down, we might as well go full nelson and remove the body from the frame to clean/repair/seal the frame up. We don't want to end up in 5 years with a Jeep that has a new motor and a rotten frame. So, we've progressed to budget frame-off territory.

This is getting out of hand...

Update. Engine is hanging where it will be living. We were going to build mounts but realized we lacked a transmission bushing, and we are using the trans mount to locate the whole drivetrain. So that put things on hold. Also the stock 440 front sump pan isn't going to clear my high steer, so we have to swap on a mid sump car pan.

Anyway, here are pics of it hanging about where it should be and the clearances.

Awesome build!

It's funny how it always ends up with: Well, since we're already here, let's do THIS!

No pic update, sadly, but I managed to nab a 7427 PCM and complete wiring harness out of a 94 G20 Conversion van today for about 40 minutes of work and $30. The conversion van harness is huge! That thing has to be at least 10 feet long. Going to make it easy to find a spot in the dash for the PCM.

Moates order should arrive soon, along with my new Aluminum radiator and some other odds and ends. Can't wait to get back to work on it.

That thing is going to be silly, I see many twisted axle shafts in your future! Great build!

Just an excuse to upgrade, isn't it? Break the transfer case, buy an atlas, Pretzel an axle shaft, swap in D60's. That's the "Jeep Thing" am I right?

I also wanted to say that I ordered my JTR VSS for the TBI setup and a bluetooth ALDL interface setup. I have a Samsung tablet that we don't really use anymore that I am planning on mounting in the Jeep for on-the-road diagnostic and media center function. Its a Verizon tablet, so Pandora built into the truck plus real time diagnostics and datalogging in one little package makes me gadget-happy.

That is a REALLY cool idea.

I see cheap tablets on craiglist for sale all of the time for $50 or less. How cool would it be to build an app that can receive more in depth diagnostic data than our gauges give us? And more ACCURATE data than our gauges? Something that can be disseminated through USB, I feel like this is possible. A potentially much cheaper way to get digitally accurate gauges without buying Dakota Digital fancy gauges.

There are lots of apps already. I had one in my lowered Chevy truck. Put it in the console. Had navagation, music, dashboard app etc all in a 7" screen :)

Yes there are apps already made that will read/display/log the ALDL data on Android no problem. That was the primary motivator in buying the bluetooth setup vs the standard USB cable. I'm not really sure what all the TBI computer will output for me via the android app, but I'm pretty sure everything the computer knows I can somehow display.

Very cool, I am planning to run the Torque app on a tablet for gauges with my ls swap.

Went to the junkyard again today and pulled one of the infamous 90-95 Taurus fans along with a Contour dual fan. Not sure which one I'll try first...
