What Gear Ratio for a 5.3/4L60E with 31's?

Post by COLORADOCRAWLER »

Looks like my rear end is going out so it's time to regear. I currently am running 31s with the possibility of 33s in the future and have a 5.3/4L60E swapped in. The current plan is 4.10 gears. I believe.that would put me on the low end for 31's and about right for 33's
Is there anyone with a tahoe, silverado, yukon, ect. with a similar setup that can weigh in on the pros/cons for 31s and 4.10s?

4.10's are on the low side for 31's, but would be fine for 33's with an OD trans. GM uses 3.73 gears for the tow package option on 1500 trucks typically (depending on exact year), and they come with a 32" tall tire. 4.10's will give you a bit more torque and low speed control, just a slightly higher RPM at speed than a 3.73 or 3.92 ratio.

I went ahead and installed the 4.10s. My OD is now use ble and the RPMs work well. As suspected, it is geared a little low for the 31s but my RPMs in overdrive now are just a hair lower at 75 MPH than they were in 3rd with the 2.72 gears. I like it.

Glad they worked out for you. I am sure they had a great impact on acceleration.

Keep in mind that my engine is now at around 110,000 miles, I raced a buddy from work redlight to redlight the other day and pulled away from his 2015 F150 with the 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 (385 peak HP and 387 Lb/Ft of Torque). I am using a stock tune and only have a K&N intake with a 3" free flowing exhaust. I am sure if it would have went longer he would have pulled away with his 6 speed tranny but it definitely gets your attention on the launch now! :-bd :fsj:
