Quadratrac ?

Post by surfwagoneer »

So I know that the AMC TH400 has a 10 spline output to match the quadratrac. If I'm right the T18 also has a 10 spline output. Is it possible to mate a T18 to Quadratrac?

Not without a custom adapter. The TH400 QT output is crazy long, it goes almost all the way through the QT to engage the low range box first.

the T18 output is a little stub, and the Dana 20 t-case input gear stays on the little output stub when you split the two.

The output shaft and bolt pattern are entirely different. So it would require a custom adapter like Redone stated. But then the way the QT works, I think a manual trans would kill it pretty quick.

Dana 20 to T-18 is 6 spline. Dana 18/20 to CJ or Jeepster T-14 is 10 spline, but I don't know if it's the same spline dimensions. As Redone writes, the shaft is short and the output gear is bolted to it.

Hmmmm bummer, just thinking about options at this point. I'm going to install a part time kit into the QT so I figured it would last just fine with a manual. I think it would have been a pretty good combo if it worked out. Oh well. Thanks for the feed back.

Mmm. I'd think 100% of the power going through the chain would be the problem. Using the chain to drive the rear wheels is the main weakness of the Quadratrac, IMO. Chain wear is already a problem, so I'd think the impact load of a manual transmission would just exacerbate that.

Yeah its not the diff so much as the chain is always powering the wheels. As opposed to like an NP242 which is also AWD, but is straight through for the rear axle.
