combine oils

Post by mpatch »

My last oil change put in 10W/30 blend. Because of few minor leaks, I was wondering if I could / should add a high mileage 10W/30 blend or just add what was already in and ask for high mileage at my next oil change, if I don't do it myself.

For daily driving I am sure mixing two different 10w30's is not going to cause any kind of issue. Under high stress conditions it most likely could cause some issues.

As long as they're both the same grade (10w30), I wouldn't hesitate to use it.

To be frank.... I do a little mixing... rotella 15w40... a bit of zzdp and also some 10w40 blend or motorcycle oil always seemed to be added when I had those major losses.
In the end the cleaner the oil the happier the bearings are. We are not speed demons racing our engines over 4000 rpms.

Just be sure you're not mixing a synthetic to your petroleum oil.
