1973 Custom Wagoneer w/FT Quadra Trac

Post by MarkPribanic »

Just got my first Jeep 8 days ago. It's a 1973 Wagoneer with full time Quadra Trac. It arrived in Florida this past February from Redding California. According to the records included, it was sold new at Dutch Chandler Motors of Sanger California. I've been bird dogging it since the first few weeks that it appeared on the streets of the Jacksonville Beaches, Florida.

It appears to be a survivor with 59K on the odometer and original paint, Trans Am Red, Code 515. It still has the original seats covers, and an incredible headliner and solid rust free body. I've put over 800 miles on it the first 7 days with most of them going on a Memorial Day trip to Charleston, South Carolina.

I've never owned an American car, so this is new territory for me. I've owned over 20+ pre 1967 VW buses and currently own a 1958 Porsche 356, 1958 VW bus, & a 1960 VW Karmann Ghia. So gonna get some use out of my SAE tool set. I'll be posting up some pictures and look forward to any advice and help in identifying what I have.

Thank you will e! It's pretty original. Looks to be in OG Trans Am Red paint too.

In Florida you can register a Year of Manufacture tag to the vehicle. The tag must be the same year as the vehicle. This is a great accessory to give the Waggy an original look.

Found this stash of correct tags..

Here is the key to decipher the codes on the tags

At first glance thought 59K could possibly be the original mileage but then discovered this tag. Unfortunately I couldn't read what the mileage was when they replaced the odometer. Anyone else see this decal before?

Very nice original "custom" wagoneer with the woodgrain option. '73 was the first year for quadra trac. Your V8 emblem was for ´73 and maybe ´72 only. Thanks for sharing the stickers, ID plate and original paperwork. I am surprised by the delay between the production date (january) and the delivery date (august). Jeeps got these yellow stickers from ´70 to ´75 or ´76.

Thank you Mud89! I started going through the paperwork yesterday and I think I will be able to track all the owners or atleast there families down for the history. Once I do so I'm going to make a timeline of owners and any major trips, events or cool stories the truck has had. I'm a bit of a picture whore so just a heads up to all! lol

This was from the first night I got it. Drove her down to a waterfront restaurant names Caps on the Water. If anyone is ever in St. Augustine, this is "the" place to dine and watch the sunset.

The next morning I met up with one of my Bus friends who was interested in seeing the Waggy. Here it is with his 1958 European delivery Standard bus in original paint, Palm Green, Sand Green. It's amazing what the value of these early buses has sky rocketed to.

He also took this action shot while driving his bus:

That evening we loaded her up with the kiddo's and took it for dinner! My girlfriend wanted to drive, and so she did, lol

Found this 1968 Porsche 912 for sale the next morning on the way to work. These also have sky rocketed in prices the last couple of years!

With memorial weekend coming up we decided to plan a road trip to Charleston South Carolina. By this time I'd been driving the waggy all of three days.

Hey Mark, welcome to the Network... Image

I have a customer that has a '72 911 that was restored a few years ago, a '57 or '58 bus restored in for upholstery, and an all original '67 beetle that is getting the trans axle rebuilt. He also has me reassembling a '60 Volvo 544. :-bd

Since the speedo change was done at a Chrysler dealership there may be a record of it someplace.

Took the Waggy out for another stretch this past Sunday. Drove over 200 miles from Neptune Beach, to Jekyll Island, St. Simmons Island to Darien Georgia and back home. The Jeep ran great! Just as smooth as my last trip when I took her to Charleston.

Stopped for lunch at one of my old favorite haunts.

Found a great Jeep shop with a very knowledgeable staff to go through the truck for a punch list of items and post purchase inspection. Turns out my cold start problem was related to my idle. When I put it in drive the RPM's drop 75-100, thus causing it to stall out and or idle rough. Adjusted that and runs much better in the mornings. Also found a vaccum line plug on the transmission was missing so they took the t fitting and made in a two way. This improved the shifting immensely. I'm guessing the vacuum line cap might have fallen off while in Charleston. \\Lastly and most importantly they did an inspection on the 48 link Quadra Trac chain and it looks like I'm going to need to replace my in the near future.

Anyone got a line on an American made 48 link Quadra Trac chain? lol

Yesterday the shipper (if you could call it that) came and picked up my 1965 VW bus that I sold to pay for the Waggy. Hard to believe that these two vehicles were almost identical to each other in price. My Waggy is near pristine and the bus, quite rusty and non running.

Image

The battery running his wench died so we hooked it up to the Jeep and pulled it up on the trailer, lol
