Hey Y'all (now with pic)

Post by GhostMedic »

Hey All,

I am in the process of getting my first FSJ. Its gonna be a 1965 Jeep Gladiator with the step side bed, 232 I-6 and the three on the tree. This will be my first ever Jeep and my first car with a manual trans. It needs a little work here and there but otherwise it's good to go. It even comes with a plow. I unfortunately do not have any pics of it on my computer at the moment but I post some up when I get her.

A little about me as well. I am 26 and in the PA Army National Guard as a combat medic. I have deployed once, for 9 months to Kuwait. I am an avid outdoors man and enjoy hiking, camping, and muddin'. I hope to learn a lot here and look forward to my first FSJ. :fsj:

:-bd Howdy and Welcome! :fsj: 65 is vintage stuff. That is the first year for the 232, a Rambler motor. The 258 was the same basic motor as well as the later AMC Jeep 4.0. Fortunately the members here vary from early to late model with all kinds of interests, experience and ideas of what their FSJ should be.

My name is Flint and I am 58 and been driving FSJs since 1976. That era is my favorite. Thank you for your service. I did 6 years in the Coast Guard in the 70s. Jeepstress, Krista is my bride. We have a 76 Wag, 77 Wag and 77 J20, all with factory 401/T400/QuadraTrac. Again, Welcome!

That's not a third light on the plow. It's the perspective of the pic, it's the passenger side headlight. Nothing major planed for her as of yet. just get her to pass NY State inspection. She's gonna be my daily driver replacing my 2005 Chevy Malibu.

Nice. Don't see many of the 232's. Don't see many six cylidners in general. They sold well back in their day, but most got ran into the ground.

Darn good engine. You won't find a smoother running engine built before the 1990's. A good 232 will idle so smooth and quiet you can't tell it's running. They're also built super strong, so you can run them flat-out all day without really hurting them. That almost like it, actually.

Everything good you hear about the 4.0L? 232's are the same, only less powerful.... but smoother, quieter, and stronger. Not a performance motor, but a great motor just for sitting under the hood and doing its job without complaints.

Only took 10 years or so to successfully get you into an FSJ :p

It's a super good runner for sure, I was driving it around for a little bit. Also saved the green one in the background which has the AMC 327!

Ha, nothing like making a fool of you self on the internet! I see it now.

Grand Wag 85, thanks for the cool shot, I was wondering what the story was on that green one in Ghost Medic's Pic. Glad you saved her too!

yeah for the most part its all there. missing the tailgate, rear bumper and the driver side fender. gonna need a new bed floor too sooner or later. But thats what junkyards and redneck engineering are for lol. I'll have a lot of help along the way from Grand_Wag_85.

So Christmas came early for me today. :D

Got the factory service manual for the Jeep in the mail as well as the fabric for the door panels I ordered.

Going with Tan 500D Cordura Nylon fabric that's urethane coated so it'll be water resistant (Same stuff they use to make the military duffle bags but tan instead of green)

I'll be seeing her for the first time on Thursday (She's been sitting at Grand_Wag_85's house since my landlord won't let me keep her at my apt.)

Grand_Wag_85 has been helping me get her up to passing NY State inspection ( :banghead: )

Will be posting up pics when I see her and maybe a video of me driving her for the first time :D
