I know there are a few of us that has plans for their rigs for this trip, so let's see what they look like.
So far I have two separate list for the same trip, one for the jeep and one for the transporter . So far the transporter is winning on all fronts. So here is the list for the jeep ( I can control this one).
Install lift
Brake lines
Tire carrier
Rock slides
Tires
Seat belts (rear)
Rear window switch
Driver window track
DPA
Right steering column
Fix small exhaust leak
So far this is as far as I want to go on this list. I had already completed a motor swap after our turkey trot. I'm sure there will be something that will be added or deleted on this list.
My J10 is ready to roll right now but in a perfect world I'd like to move up a tire size or three and complete the TBI. I plan on bringing the M416 out so hopefully the carb'd 258 won't dog too much thru the passes.
Speaking of the M416 I have to actually finish that project. Pretty much just sandblasting, painting and some welding.

You know it's bad when your car is on the EPA's 10 most wanted list!
I have some upgrades before Ouray, we will see if they pan out. I think they will.
In addition, I need to get some of the more obvious body work done.
I am not too worried about most upgrades since Ouray is not super difficult. (But is it super awesome and beautiful)
One thing I do want to try is a dolly tow. I am going to try to hook up with Jerry to borrow his dolly as a 'test' before Ouray. If it seems to work out then I most likely will purchase a used wider dolly and pull the Cherokee behind me this year. If that works out then bringing the wife in the future is more of an option. I even did the math and a used dolly will actually pay for itself pretty quick in saved gas money. (well, eventually).
I would like to finish the headliner.
Fix exhaust leak.
I have plans to pull/clean/seal the engine but I think I will do that after Ouray.
My heater doesn't work, the fan blows but no real air movemet. And all of the vacuum motors are toast so that might be something I to pull off before Ouray.
I want to get a low profile roof rack but that is not a 'must do' for Ouray.
I have been thinking more and more about my week in the cool pines of the San Juans. It is one of my favorite weeks of the year.

While those are all nice I don't see anything that 'needs' to be done for Ouray trails!
I'm putting a whole new floor into the Honcho. Not specifically for the Ouray trip, but it's being done anyway. Need a better way to mount the racing seats and needed to move 'em over a little bit.
Mike, you are correct swing that it will be towed again. It sure would be nice to be more capable this year.

Grand_wag, thanks for the update. Can't wait to see it in person.
1. Buy Gooseneck (purchased 4/7.... 24 lowboy with drive over fenders)
2. Drive to TN and get Jeep (leave April 30)
3. Reconnect and fill fuel tank....drained the tank so algae wouldnt set up while I wasnt there. (5/20)
4. remove hydro assist steering
5. Install 2.75 x 8 DE ram, orbital, etc
6.Maybe a break in run at Moab
7. Find something to pass the time so I dont lose my mind

Well my list has not gotten any shorter at this time, I can just add to it. Does anyone have any idea as to the right jets for a 1406 in the mountains? I am not happy here with mine loading up at just over 7K'.
In a lot of ways this is like 2009 for me. My jeep is in the body shop and I am about to get it back and will have to get some work done on it before Ouray.
2009 was a good Ouray year. I had done a marathon effort on the Jeep to get it ready after getting it back from the body shop. I spent most of June working on it (work furlough allowed me the time). I got it ready and had an almost flawless trip.
I missed 2010 but made 2011, 2012, 2013. Each of those years my rig was ready way before hand. So this is exciting.
Anyone remember 2012 when a group of us got caught on the south side of the road closure and ended up running Ophir around to Ridgeway. At the time it was a major pain but when I look back at it I had a lot of fun.
Or last year, we got cut off by a land slide and hung out making cheese crisps and swapping out a front wheel bearing while we waited for the road to be cleared.
And I think it was 2011 when I was towed in on a flat bed because my thermostat stuck.
I am looking forward to 2014 (except those darn birds in the morning... )
My 2014 plans are,
Get road ready (ie, routine maintenance),
New tires,
2" rusty's add a leaf,
Exhaust,
Fix rust in floorboards,
Hurculine the interior floorboards,
Get Guage cluster working,
Fix window flex tracks,
Rag joint delete using xj column,
And that may be it for 2014,in no particular order, well, the obvious first anyways, (routine maintenance/tires).
Looks like some field mice ate some wiring while the Jeep was in Tennessee for 10 months. Got some soldering to do. Kinda looking forward to it. Having her back in my driveway in need of TLC is better than across the country and in tip top shape.

We took a family camping trip up to the family cabin this weekend so I used it as a shakedown for the Money Badger. As expected he was a dog heading out of Denver on 285, had to drop into 3rd on every hill and rev it up until the valves floated then back it off a hair. With an old 304 spinning a T18, 3.54 gears and 33x12.5 mudders I half expected this. Took a little time at the cabin to dink with the timing and found two vacuum leaks. On the drive back down from the South Park area it did a little better, holding 50mph in 4th on some of the milder hills. Only real things on my prep list are to check for more vac leaks, tune up my comms, and hunt down a few spare tires at the junkyard. Some nice to haves that aren't high priority are carpet and a nicer newer bench seat.
