so here is the birth record of my fourdoor. this project has been going on for three years now and still far from done but hopefully one day it will be. long before i knew what an FSJ was i knew i wanted a four door pickup and i wanted it to be a jeep. my goal is to have a camping and tow rig that has room for the whole gang, and a waggy is just too small. the plan is two use two vehicles to make one, a truck and a wagoneer. one of my main goals is to retain the brow. inorder to do this i am basicly going to stretch the truck cab with the b-pillar section from a wagoneer. first i needed to find two donors.

the first donor is a '73 J4000. picked it up for $500 with a broken transfer case adapter. a new one of those and a new edelbrock carb, she runs like a champ.





second donor is an '80 wagoneer. got this one for $400. dosnt run and looks like it hasn't for some time. but it is a solid almost rust free body.



first thing on my list was to take the parts from the wagoneer that i wanted. so i proceded to gut it and start the hacking. i took a sawzall to it and just cut it biger than what i needed so it can be trimed exact size later. i wont be using any of the roof or floor from it.





then it was on to the rear doors. im going to use the rear doors from the wagoneer. they will line up perfectly and latch with the back of the truck cab once i swap the latches. obviously the rear doors from a wagoneer have a cutout for the wheel. solution is to use part of the front door.

because i don't want to shorten the bed and i want to have four doors. no factory jeep frame will work. i thought about a lot of diffrent things to do, but the simplest is just to stretch the frame on the '73. the total stretch needs to be 33 1/4" which is the length of the wagoneer rear doors. to do the stretch i am using 6x2 3/16 thick square tubing and then boxing the frame with 3/16 plate. best part is all of this is being done in a two car garage, and all the cuting is done with a HF 4 1/2" gringer .

got the 6x2 in place, and spent about an hour measuring and double checking with lots of cross measurments before i clamped it in place.

ok here is the making of the cab. using the center section of a wagoneer and stiking it inbetween the truck cab. nothing too complecated here just a bunch of measuring and cuting. i will let the pictures tell most of the story.

making the floor. i had to make a hat channel to connect the ends of the truck cab. also had to make another body mount to suport all the weight of the bigger cab.






the roof is made out of nine diffrent sections from 3 diffrent trucks

and the years fly on by as i slowly work on the truck.

axle swap using a D60 sterling 10.5 out of a '99 f350. disc brakes and plenty of beef with these axles







well that is three years of work in a nutshell. for this winter i am planing on a 5.3, 4l60E, np241c swap so stay tuned in.

I've been following your progress for a while and I'm really thinking about doing the same thing to the J20.

I cant believe you got that truck for $500! Crew cab long bed 4x4 trucks are so badass. That interior color is also very nice.

Is it a first year quadratrac? I think I read somewhere that they only used that fender badge in 73 and 74.

ok time for some updates to this, now my motor swap is in full swing, it's an GM 5.3L, 4l60E, np241 combo.

steering shaft using an XJ lower shaft. my steering setup uses the stock '73 colom and upershaft, XJ lower shaft, J20 box, stock wagoneer pitman arm, custom draglink using chevy oneton tierod ends, and the stock ford tierod.

Good to see the longbed thread back.

What relays are those and what circuits are you going to use them for?

relays are for the dual fans and fuel pump. the harness was custom made by howell, really simple hookup. you need constant 12V, and switched 12V to the fuse block, hook up the fuel pump starter signal and O2 sensors and you are done. the less wiring i have to do the better.

been busy finishing up all the little things, but there is still alot to do before i can fire it up.

got my digital dash and all the sensors hooked up, that was some time consuming work.



fuel system is about 99% finished, just waiting on a few conectors. i am using a JAZ 22 galon fuel cell that i was able to mount in the "stock" location under the bed on the driver side. lines are 3/8 aluminum and braided steel using -6 AN conectors. aeromotive pre filter, bosch pump, bosch post filter.

Sweet stuff there! It will be fun to see it and you in Ouray.

got my hydroboost lines installed, they are from an '05 cadillac escalade, fit perfectly with very little bending.



built my exaust, this took me alot longer than i wanted it too. clearances to the front driveshaft and oilpan is tight, defenetly going to lift it alittle. the exaust is 2.5" and i am using a flomaster 50 series muffler.











put the front valance back on, its starting to look like a truck again! added a transmission cooler and powersteering cooler. the trans cooler is from B&M using -6 AN hardware. the PS cooler came off some kia minivan, it's nice and compact.
