PTO Brake?

Post by lil jeep mec »

i have a question.. has anyone ever thought of a pto brake as an e brake? i'm going to do 4 wheel discs and still want an ebrake and to do a transfercase ebrake i have to shorten my driveshaft and line locks are not reliable for long term applications. also anyone have a lead on a pto to go on my dana 20? or for a np205 for my dodge? i want to do te same thing if its possible and cost effective

What rear discs are you using? Dodge 1/2 ton 4x4s with 5 on 5.5" pattern have a drum inside the hub.

If you get an axle that came with disc, they will have the e-brake drum already there.

If understand you though regarding the PTO brake. You would basically pull the PTO level (Assuming you have a trans with a PTO port) and this would connect it to a shaft that cannot spin? So it would lock up the trans. So you could start the engine with it in neutral and not have the vehicle move.

yes that is what i want! it would have to put it through the transfer case, since the transmission PTO spins in neutral. I'm converting drum to disc.

I am installing one on my diesel conversion. I am swapping in a NP205 and mounting a trans brake on the back of the transfer case. Here is a picture of the flange and transfer case. I have not got to setting up the caliper and linkage yet, been pretty busy with my other project. I bought the rotor and caliper from Tom Wood's Custom Drivelines. My buddy has the same set up on his rock crawler and he swears by it. I am going this way for the coolness factor and because I did not want to have E-brake cables running down to the axles. Converting my rear Corp 14 from drum to disk as well.

That would be nice, but for now I dont want to have to buy the plate that you mount the rotor too lol (xant remember what its called) and shorten my driveshaft, when I do a motor swap it will have to be done especially if I do the cat 3126 I want to which stock is 300hp and 840 ftlbs
