J10 Suspension

Post by JCook5003 »

Thinking about ordering the suspension for my J10 project. In the past I've never gotten good flex from taller arch "lift" springs. Seems the general thinking is that LONG, FLAT springs are the way to go.

So the question, anyone running a Rusty's or BJ's offroad 4" kit? How's it ride? Flex?

What about SOA? Stock springs? How do you work around the steering?

Longer springs? 63" Chevy's, 52"? SOA or lift versions SUA?

Shackle reversal? Shackle hanger flip?

Other options or opinions? I want to keep this thing leaf sprung to stay within the budget, just looking for a solid option.

I think you need to consider the use of the truck.

I always prefer SOA for a number of reasons. Others like a simple 4-6" SUA spring swap because it's bolt on. 63" chevy springs work great as well.

Yeah, what are your plans? Will you be towing/hauling? Is it street only, offroad mostly, etc.

I have run Rusty's springs, they ride ok. They were the same stiffness as stock for me. But that varies depending on vehicle.

There is also Hell Creek Suspension, good american made springs. Their website is a bit bleh, but they offer good phone support.

You also get a discount at BJ's Offroad and Hell Creek for being a member here (See their posts in the vendors area).

I'm installing Rusty's 4" spring lift this weekend on my GW. Ride won't exactly translate well to a J10, but can still post info on it. However, if you go Rusty's don't order from their website...I contacted them asking about FSJNetwork discounts and they cut shipping charge to less than half what the website quoted. Don't know if the affiliation with FSJN had any bearing, but they included a free sticker pack too, which my kids are loving :)

Hopefully the truck will get wheeled some here in the east, nothing too hardcore. Mostly a nice retro driver/light wheeler/camping rig. Does that change the opinion?

Kind of. Next is how much do you want to spend, and do you want bolt on, or is welding ok?

I dont need junkyard cheap, but I also dont want to spend $5k for something super blingy either. Something in the middle (a little closer to budget) would be nice.

Welding is fine.
