Good grief...

Post by babywag »

I swear if it wasn't for piss poor luck I wouldn't have any @ all.
So yesterday I installed new exhaust on my new to me F250. (MN likes to eat exhaust!)

For whatever reason I decided to look @ the new tires.
My mom just had them put on replacing the originals that were in poor shape @ 49k.
So the truck came with 265/75/16 load range E tires.
Said it on the door sticker, the spare they took off, and of course the 4 tires they replaced.
The Ford dealership (in MN) installed 285/75/16 load range D tires.
The truck is now in CA...this should be interesting how they handle their screw up.

The fronts rub @ full lock turns, heard it a few times on the drive from MN to CA.
Now I know why it felt like I was going faster than what I was seeing, because the speedo is off now.
And why the MPG calculations seemed a little off from what the truck usually got.
The spare is now smaller.

Sounds like the dealership may just eat it and pay to replace the tires, they asked for some price quotes this morning. :P

Strange that they would install different tires. I am wondering if they had them for somebody else so just stuck them on. No Fords have ever come with a 285/75R16 tire.

'99 SuperDuty crewcab, don't care if they should fit.
Didn't ask for them/want them to install bigger tires.
They were told to install OE spec load range "E" tires, and they did not.

Reduced braking, speedo is off, gear ratio decrease, etc.
Issues I didn't want/should not have to deal with.

That's approx. 3/4" wider and 2" taller than stock. Not to mention the D rating.. Yeah I'd be making them eat them as well.

Fit or not you have have gotten what you ordered. The lack of E rating might be a problem if your towing heavy. I have a 99 crew superduty that had 315-75s on it when I bought it. They didn't rub. I am now on my 3rd set of 285s and love them. Finding 285s with an E rating has been difficult though.

The check to replace the tires will be in the mail from the dealer that screwed up. :-bd

Funny they put load range "D" tires on when BFG makes the same size tire in load range "E".
But considering they can't read and put the wrong size tires on in the first place not surprising I guess.

Not sure why you'd have problems finding load range "E" tires in 285/75/16 a quick search netted 20 different ones on tirerack.com when I checked.

If I get the check I'll be happy, they know they screwed up, and seem to want to make it right.
