Lift installed, front Drive shaft hits exhaust

Post by ross80truck »

Just installed a skyjacker 4" soft ride lift on my 76 Cherokee. With the Jeep on the lift and the front axle at full drop, I cannot install the front drive shaft because it hits the stock exhaust. I think I have read about this problem somewhere before, but could not find anything about it on the forum. Is there a quick easy solution to this? I know I could just put the jeep on the ground and then install the drive shaft, but then every time I put it back on the lift it will hit the exhaust and bend it. I would rather not modify the exhaust because I like how the stock exhaust is tucked up under the jeep nicely. I was thinking of adding some axles straps. I would only need to limit full drop maybe 1 to 2" to fix this problem.

Has anyone else out there had this problem and what did you do to fix it?

I had to reroute the exhaust on my '75. I made it go under, and connect farther back. I have photos that I can post tonight when I get home. I did run without the shaft for like 2 weeks. If you have a QT, before to put it in e-drive.
