Not as bad as it looks!

The top Harness is in perfect condition, as is the bottom one.

The middle one is toast, but it has quite a few good connectors not to mention I labeled it before I pulled it. So I can tell whats what on the PERFECT bottom harness.

I haven't left...................... Life has just been getting in the way  I have not seen you around here very much either???????

Anyway, the dash is actually done but all I have right ow are these crappy pictures. of the instrument cluster.

The backside. Used Deutsch connectors on all the looms. They cost a bit more, but are really nice. I will heat-shrink over the brass contact points on the gauges after I try the unit out to make sure everything works.

The Pretty side. If I had to do it all over again I would use Speedhut gauges instead of the VUE gauges I bought.

Degrime & Powerwash Day! YEAY!

Post by Dusty »

I bought this Industrial degreaser from Homie Depot and sprayed it undiluted onto the undercarriage of my Waggy today.
TOTALLY AMAZED!
It said to dilute it, but I thought "why not?" So just sprayed it direct to 40+ years of oil and dirt on the bottom of my Jeep. Let it sit a while then used a cheapo $80. HF power washer. Cleaned it up real nice too.
OH!
Make sure you wear safety glasses, as this degreaser kinda burns your skin a bit, and I think it would be bad in your eyes?

Took a lot of paint off the frame, but that is cool. Next phase is to media blast on Sunday afternoon. Then shoot the DTM epoxy primer, and the Eastwood ceramic heat/sound barrier.

I need new ALCAN spring decals?

Fuel tank skid plate was coated in tranny fluid and dirt.
Pretty heavy duty huh?

Finally got back up the mountain last night, and this morning Dustless Blasting came out to blast my jeep.
Really cool way to blast metal, fiberglass, wood. It uses recycled ground up beer bottles. Also a water/chemical mixture is added. So the water cools the metal, and it does not warp from the blasting. It is SO FAST too!
Also it has a 24 hour safe zone after blasting before it is supposed to flash rust on you.
Even though they call it dustless, it isn't. There was still plenty of dust everywhere. But did I say it was FAST?
It took this guy like 2 1/2 hours to blast the whole thing.

SO of course it is going to rain tomorrow, but maybe Monday I can finish getting media off and out of the jeep then I can wipe down with fast etch, then shoot epoxy primer on the old bird.
Then on to body work, and paint.

He put down a bunch of visqueen, and rolled the jeep on top of it. It contained a good amount of the media, but it still went everywhere.
The gentelman did clean up afterwards. Swept the area after he rolled up the plastic, and placed everything in the back of his truck.
It was $750.00 to blast the front frame, the exterior of the jeep, interior, and front fenders. If I had all the glass out of the doors, the trim off the hood, and the tailgate ready he would have blasted them too for the same price.
You do need to have the parts completely bare of trim and glass.

I was looking into having the jeep flatbeded down the hill, to have it soda blasted. The price including the tow would have been almost $2000.00 however, and right now I don't have that kind of money nor time.

ARGGHHHHHHH!!!!

Cleaning the jeep of media after blasting is a ROYAL PAIN IN THE ARSE!

One little problem with the "Dustless Blasting" is since they use water, a kinda muddy/paint/dirt sticks to everything and everywhere. I was out all day today with a little wire brush, air hose, and my shop vac. Every time I thought I just about had all the media cleaned up, BOOM! more sand!

I am so close now to having it out of all the little crevaces, and whatnots?

Maybe? I hope and pray?

I also had to use Eastwood's Fast Etch, as we had two days of rain since the blasting, and there is a bunch of flash rust on it. So now it has a nice zinc finish pretty much every where. Will complete all of that tomorrow.

In the morning we start on replacing the rusted out corners on the quarter panels, and all the other welding (sway bar mounts, little holes from AMC, redo the firewall panel that was welded in before, part of one fender, shoulder belt nuts on the door posts). Should have epoxy primer on it in the next few days, as well as the Eastwood Sound/Heat barrier coating on the ceiling and floor's.
Will snap off a few pictures at the end of day as I know you guys like pictures.

I need to have it in paint before our first snow.
Besides.

I really really miss driving it!

I know your pain. I spent hours vacuuming, blowing, banging, vacuuming to get it all. Blowing in one side and vacuuming the other then reverse. At least no water was involved so my sand was loose.

Did you notice how it got down in the pillars? Then down into the rockers? There's a plug in the back of the rockers in the rear wheel wells that's a big help.

If I ever won the lottery I'd just pay you a bunch of money to redo my jeep. You are meticulous!
