Hood ornament fell off

Post by letank »

Not devastated, ah, ah, that ornament is not a success in design... the bottom loop detached... lucky me while cranking, so no Tesla was scratched by a flying Jeep piece...

Detail of the failure

How it is attached, wondering how did the workers installed that piece at the factory?

Need to find a better figure head... dog, wolf, Wille coyotte, flying pig... bear, duck... a friend has humping bears...

you could drill and tap the emblem part install a bolt cut off the bolt or screw head cross drill a hole in the bolt shank and reinstall the spring, my take on a repair if you want the emblem installed

I would mention - the spring is there to keep you from breaking off the ornament in a car wash or whatever. Plus it's a pedestrian safety measure.

Not sure how they install at the factory, but it's likely some variant of what follows. If you attach the spring to the ornament, you can pull the bottom end of the spring down over the hook from inside the hood. Maybe a length of strong wire? Thread the wire down into the hood and pull to hook the spring.

Weld it on! Can't have any flex or give anywhere 😉

I would probably do the bolt trick, although I think Team Grand Wagoneer might sell new ones--as long as you don't need any customer service from them it'll be fine...probably...

There are 2 major differences between new Wranglers and FSJs. FSJs are meant to be both utilitarian and capable, not just capable. FSJs are also rarely initially recognized as Jeeps by the average American.

Rubber ducky might be a good option, it does not rust!
