Deciphering VIN Number

Post by AlexJordan22 »

My local JY just updated their inventory and show a "1990 Wagoneer" but I'm not sure if it's the XJ wagoneer or the SJ. Here in the VIN:

1J4FN78L0LL274573

I think its an XJ but I want to be sure. Thanks

1979 Mercury Zephyr Z7
1968 Mercury Cougar

I'd check the '89 TSM that's free to read or download on the Tom COllins site: https://oljeep.com/edge_parts_man.html
Should be close enough for an '89 to get the model from the VIN.

Looks like "N" is an XJ Wagoneer. A GW would be "S", ie 1J4GS or 1J4HS. The next "L" is a 4.0L which never appeared in a type 15 AFAIK.
