It is not flat. It's a very glossy blue. It looks flat when it's dirty, but it's nice and glossy. I'll probably do some minor sanding around the scratches and paint it (and other unrelated scratches; just detail it)--I still have the can of paint from when it was painted, so it'll match, and it's still liquid. Although since I'm heading west I'm tempted to just let it patina.candymancan wrote: ↑Sun Apr 09, 2023 9:18 pm Amazing. Glad its all together. And glad you didnt lose the Jeep and its still going. Despit the panel damage. What are you gonna do with the panels that bent once you get situated . Leave em as battle scars ? Or pop em out ? With the paint job you got being a flat color.. i imagine there wont be a option to pop out and repaint as itll look way off.. vs Like say mine would
Local shop; they have connections with some glass shops in the southern end of the state (MN) and around IA and SD. Found that one of the shops down there has a MASSIVE stash of old truck and car windshields, dating back to like the '50s; a lot of really hard to find glass, and for pretty cheap. I wouldn't normally throw prices out there but they did the whole install, including the windshield trim, for less than $315. Only complaint is that mine has a rearview mirror mount on it and my mirror mounts to the roof, but it's not a big deal.
Yeah! I though so. I had to verify with them twice to make sure we were talking the same vehicle.
My XJ quote at the same shop was $320.00.sierrablue wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 8:00 am Pretty sure that's about what our XJ was. A little cheaper than my SJ one was but neither was crazy.
I think the XJ quote was more because it involves gluing in the windshield so it included the glue cost. The SJ quote was without replacing the seal. If they replaced the seal I would assume that the cost would be be + seal cost and mark up I'm sure. I picked up a seal for about $90.00 so that would move the replacement cost up to $350.00 without mark up.sierrablue wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 7:14 pm Seriously?! How?
I like how we both got quotes on both the SJ and the XJ
SJ or XJ?
On the XJ, yes, but not on the SJ. I need to bring mine back in because they have a no-leak guarantee and mine leaks
They have not replaced the glass yet. I was just getting a quote for glass to install once I get the Jeep back up and running. The last time I replaced the glass they did use some sort of sealant. They used the old gasket and after the replacement it squeaked. Hopefully with the new gasket it will eliminate the squeaking.
