1963 J200 Gladys Build

Post by emillika »

I have a few projects going on and have and am selling off a few FSJs to focus on 4.

1. 1969 Wagoneer LS swap - Mina
2. 1979 Cherokee Chief 401 - Spunky
3. 1970 Jeepster Commando - Sky Blue
4. 1963 J200 Gladiator - Gladys

This post will cover project #4 Gladys..

Bought from original owners and it is in AMAZING condition. Bought it do to a family move that forced it's sale and Im so happy to have driven out to see it in Iowa and bring it home.

PO Notes:

• 1963, 1st year they made them.
• Dana 60 rear end (1978 Ford F250) with disc brake conversion done to it and air overload bags.
• Front is the Dana 44HD (1978 Ford F250) which has the Dana 60 knuckles converted to high steer.
• Front with mile marker locking hubs.
• Steering gearbox from a 1978 Ford F250 Hi Boy. Hydrostatic power brake. Firewall mounted only.
• Small block Chevy in it (good for mock up only) and turbo 400 trans. Custom fabricated long tube headers and one off front belt accessory drive setup ready for air condition compressor. Billet aluminum timing cover, fabricated aluminum valve covers, new aluminum water pump.
• Have driveshafts but need to be cut down.
• Also, new aluminum radiator, 4 core I believe.
• Alum battery tray.
• Firewall has been smoothed out and dash modified for custom gauge setup in the middle.
• My dad had once cut a hole in the roof for a sunroof which I have.
• Bed is rust free and came from Colorado ( that was pricey) tailgate was only rusty thing and started fabricating repairs for the bottom of that.
• All but one door and hood have been stripped and epoxy primed but there are a few spots of surface rust.
• Also have to go with a 1975 Cherokee that has good doors (complete) and other parts that would fit.
• 3 sets of pie pans, No windshield though.
• Cherokee has all glass. (Comes with 1975 Cherokee parts rig)

My notes:

-Getting 2018 Gen V LT L86 with DOD\AFM delete BTR Stage 2 truck cam
-Holley LS style pulley & bracket kit
-Swaptimeusa harness, ecu\tcu programming tap shift controls and oem shifter to control 8l90e and Tcase, PWM fan controls, etc.
-Powder coat the frame, diffs, etc. after finishing up complete mockups
-Custom fuel tanks with high pressure pumps for L86 direct injection needs
-Custom interior that I have completed and waiting
-Probably going Dodge gray with black out trim finish
-Roll bar with KC LED lighting
-Custom front and rear bumpers with LED lighting
-Vintage Air setup
-35" tires
-All stainless brake and fuel lines
-Either hardwood bed floor or Line-x
-Most parts such as weather stripping sourced from BJS Off-Road.

Wow that is gonna be a sweet build! I can’t wait to follow along with this! Looks like a good clean truck to start with.

Just for reference, a '78 Ford would not be called a Hi Boy...

But a beautiful build. great work

Not the best pics but hopefully you can see the intent\design. They are slightly angled towards the driver. I also have a Dakota Digital gauge cluster I forgot to mention.. weighing out if the analog gauges "clash" with the digital cluster.

Fun build! Not sure which bed is pictured. Earliest models had round brake lights and no reverse lights for a couple years, external latch for tailgate.

This bed is from newer truck as you mentioned the tail lights and mounting points are slightly different.
