I was worried about the fit after seeing the first two pics but then I see you made a good hard stop to finish the install for the third. ;)

Yeah the floor of the camper measures 8ft but the storage boxes prevented it from sliding all the way in. After a little cutting it slides all the way in now. Adios storage boxes.

You really need some frame mounted tie down points with spring loaded tensioners. Ntsqd has a lot of experience with those doing off highway exploring and I’m sure aha some good tips as well.
My slide in was massive, but the tie downs need some give to protect the camper and the truck.

I used these for years and still use them on my RTT.

I made mounts similar to these, it takes the abuse off of the sheet metal of the bed.

Hopefully this helps you have an excellent experience with your camper.
Thanks for the links! Yeah I definitely will be adding some frame mounted tie downs in the future.

Finally got around to building some brackets for the camper, welded up these 1/4" brackets with removable ends for the front anchor points. Rears are next.

No pictures but I also cleaned up the fan wiring after the volvo 2 speed relay crapped out and replaced it with two individual relays. While testing if they would work the AC experienced rapid depressurization, IE blew out the compressor seal and dumped the refrigerant :banghead: . The fans never came on with the AC so my guess is that the lack of airflow caused it to over pressurized and blow the seal. The fans work according to cooling temp though  .

Also decided to get a tune loaded to my spare PCM as I've been disappointed with the current tune. The current tune seems to run rich, randomly idles high and I've notice poor gas mileage. Well so far no luck with the new tune, got the computer back and loaded in the truck and it idles at 400RPM. Immediately dies in gear. So working on that now, if anyone has any suggestions on what that might be I'm all ears. I need to follow up with the tuner again but they confirmed the idle is set to 800RPM. Jeep ownership - always something hahaha

Nice looking brackets!

As for the running issue, I'd be currious if they turned off the O2's in the ecm, some tuners due that while on the dyno to get the fuel and timing maps built then turn them back on for minor triming during normal running. I have a harness that has an issue with the O2's, you can see them, they are turned on but they just flat line. My tuner cleaned up the fuel and timing maps and i've never noticed it running rich, no cats so it would be obvious, and fuel mileage is better than comparable vehicles with the original motor that's been fuel injected.

My J truck does the 400rpm idle and die in gear thing when the battery has been disconnected. It takes about 30 minutes of driving to get it to stop dying and a few hours for the idle to come up, but mine idles at 600, which is stock, but I also have a stock motor, I know your's isn't quite stock anymore 8-)
The bus I ride is so short it is a yellow Smart Car full of squirrels, monkeys and clowns.

Ok, I think I figured the 400RPM issue out. It seems it's actually idling at 800 but incorrectly reading half at the tach. Idled it yesterday and drove it to work this morning with no stalling issues. At highway speed, the tach reads around 900, half of the usual 1800-1900 it would usually run. A quick search suggests it's a wrong setting in the tune.

Nice rig! Enjoyed reading the build thread.

I was cringing a bit when I saw the pictures with the camper hanging off the back of the truck as I've seen people online try to do that before. :o I was relieved to hear you modded it to fit fully in the bed and got the center of gravity forward of the axle where it belongs! :-bd lol

The ride home was quite sketchy like that  the space between the cab and camper acted like a sail and wanted to pick the camper up. It is much better now with it sitting fully in the bed!

I think this may be the best "upgrade" I have done to the J20 yet comfort wise! After 4 years with the corbeau seats and wishing I had more leg room and could sit lower in the cab I switched back to OEM seats. With the bucket seats from the Cherokee replacing the stiff corbeau seats this thing is so much more comfortable. The OEM seats sit lower in the cab, slide farther back, and have 40 years of break in to soak up the bumps. The only downside is the fabric has seen better days so i will need to address that in the future but very pleased!

I also got a new daily - 2016 Ford F150 5.0! Happy to have a truck that can tow the Jeeps as well as fit the camper.
