Curiosity question, What model is the rustier axle in the pic? For comparison, the black one in the pic is a GM d60:

Notes:

No markings on the boss or the tubes

Tubes are thicker, drums are wider

webbing on pumpkin,

pinion snout is bigger

asking cause I'd like to know. rusty one was bolted to the back of my J10 when i got it

Black one looks like a D60, rusty one looks like a D70. But hard to say for sure based off these photos.

EDIT: Oh, you say the black one is a D60 heh :)

Try a 8 lug jeep rim on the rusty one first step .

it's an 8 on 6.5 std bolt pattern, so any mfg rim fits, pre metric change

Also, if you pull the cover, it will be very obvious what axle it is. The D60 and D70 carriers are very different.

10 bolt cover. I've had dana 30s, 44's, 60's and a 70 on a dually; this one seems somewhere in between a 60 and a 70, I know GM, i know Jeep. Ford and Dodge not really.

Looks like a 60 but slightly different. Can you read the Bill Of Materials numbers on the tube at all? They should be stamped in the long tube with 1/8" letters/numbers if its a dana spicer. You can take those numbers to their website and get a full breakdown of the model and parts used to build it.

The more i look at it it looks like a dana 60. Check the passenger side lower web. Should have a 60 cast into it

D60 and D70 use the same cover. So you can't go by that. The brakes are what make me think D70. Annnnd, after a little searching, found this photo of a Ford D70. Looks identical to yours. This one was from a mid 70's high boy. And as I said, pull the cover, and it will be super obvious if its a 70.

I'm gonna say its a D70B. The neckdown on the end of the tubes looks familiar. Put one in my wag.

Stuka's picture is not the OP's axle. The axle in the OP's pics does not appear to neck down like that.

Yeah, thats a photo I found. But they are dang similar. Rusty axle on green grass with old tires :) With the exception of the neck down, they appear to be very similar. Very similar drums and such.

Dang it. My bad. Still guessing it's a 70 though.

A wire wheel may help make some of them more visible, a lot of times they get pretty coated with rust.

Ahh, nothing wrong with a 61, depending on what gears you wan't to use. You can always bore the hubs for 35 spline axles.

No argument Stuka. the D-60 in the first sets is much newer and in far better shape. Plus it has 4:10s. The spring perches are in the right place, I'll just need to add the shock mounts. Almost plug and play.
