Im really considering going back to stock height. I hate my 4" Hell creek springs. It rides like crap and after driving it on a 175 mile round trip this weekend I've decided it has to go. Anyone have a good source for new stock replacements for a first generation pickup?

Yup, same place you got your lift springs, Hell Creek.
Call Tom, he will set you up. I just got a set of new front stock springs for my '66. Stuka pointed me in the right direction.

Got replacement fronts from ESPO a few years back. Don't know if they still sell them.

When you put the springs on, did you make sure to leave the leaf eyes loose until it was on the ground? If you tightened it int he air, it will make the ride MUCH rougher. Also comes down to what shocks you are using. They springs are not known for being rough riding. I have had two sets of springs made by them myself.

I left it loose til it was on the ground and the engine was back in, then tightened them. It never budged. It has Rancho RS5000 shocks at the moment. It has been a few years. Maybe i'll loosen them tonight again and see if it will drop any to kick those front shackles out. When i put the truck on the lift the front springs dont even move. The rear swings down alot, probably 8-10"

Curiosity was making my head hurt so i went and loosened them before work just now. They still sit exactly the same. Front posts are original locations and shackles are original. Spring measures 22x22x2 as it should be. I don't get it.

The RS5000s could be adding to the jarring ride. Also, make sure you shackle bushings are not rock hard.

Making sure to tighten the spring and shackle bolts when the rig is on the ground is less about how it sits, and more about not preloading the bushings at all at ride height. I usually just snug everything up, then drive around the block and over a few speed bumps to set everything, then with the rig on level ground, properly torque everything.

At this point its on the backburner. Found my steering box mount cracked on the frame. Im going to end up reconfiguring every aspect of my front end after i repair it. Stock springs, heavy duty tie rods, and other stuff like that.

Part numbers are 97-485 for rears.. and the front depends on the year of your wagoneer or jpickup. But i ordered the 97-402 1450lbs . 97-400 at 1330lbs was stock though for my 90

Im the only on here who found actual OEM springs made in the USA.. Hellscreek is overpriced and not OEM... BJS is overpriced and crown chinese springs.

I have all new rear and front OEM springs. couldnt be happier with their performance.. Nit yoo expensive either.. 130-160$ each

Do a search youll find my thread somewhere..


Check on those suppliers and use their search function.. A 67 is old though they may not have em.. And you might have to get them custom made

I have a strong feeling your not the only one on here that has managed to buy stock spec springs that are made in the US.
Also, the springs for Gladiators are COMPLETELY different than the ones you ordered for your 90. Any good custom spring place should be
able to make them though.

I'm sure i could have stock ones made, but since my steering box frame mount cracked this weekend I am more interested in if you can cut off the old welded mount and run a newer style j10/20 mount in its place. Springs are now secondary. After my trip to Mass this weeekend i really stressed that 51year old steel.

Judging by pics of J10/20 frames and bolt patterns of the saginaw boxes i feel like it would work. Currently the J2k is dead in the driveway until i find the solution

I don't see why you couldn't cut off the old welded mount and add the other style. The front frame horn reinforcement (on the inside of the front cross member) changed a little for the later years, but I don't think it would stop you from using the newer mount on the older truck.

I have one of those J20 mounts on my 63. You will need to sleeve the holes for the bolts with tubing, otherwise you will squeeze the inner and outer sections of the frame together. I'd suggest a steering box brace as well. I have one I bought from Tadsal, it's awesome.

Thats kinda what i was thinking. I have sleeves and if they dont fit i could make them from tubing. My frame crushed with bumper brackets when i installed the three piece. Its not exactly stout

According to my 3 months of searching and asking on bith forums.

I am. No one could recomend stock oem springs.. other then Hellcreek which are 2 inch lifts.. and bjs which are crown springs.. and team grand wagoneer which are crown springs.

trist me i looked for months and had to find them myself.. Since no one spoke up no one knew on where to actually get oem springs.. Ill take the title of first for the forums.. sorry lol

Youre talking about the brace that goes from the brace from the passenger frame rail to the lower part if the steering box, right? I think the neck on mine is smaller than yours because it is a XJ box

These springs are for '76 up (not post mount) and show up lots of places, including RockAuto and General Spring https://www.generalspringkc.com/Leaf_Sp ... s/1956.htm ... likely many other places.

There are shops for custom springs that specialize in 4x4 apps, like Deaver https://www.deaverspring.com/products/ They will build anything you want. Spendy though.

There is always Alcan spring. They can make anything you want.

Dayton is who made my springs.. Generalspring... truck springs and sd truck springs are the ones i already mentioned.. the springs they sell are Dayton springs

I know i am all over with this but last night i was thinking about it more. The front pack is 7 leafs with a double wrap main eye and the rear is 4 leafs. If i removed a couple up front that should soften it up some. Its got an I6, not a heavy V8 or diesel. How many leafs are stock uo front normally on a 6k gvw truck?
