Progress..

Some SLIGHT confusion as to how this goes back together
Image

Getting some use out of the old engine.. my new tool tray!

Test fit of radiator, and then later with all new hoses and lines installed.

Woulda done more pics but I was just too focused on getting it together.

Still have to plug stuff in, get the ignition sorted. Rework fuel lines and install the new sender and do exhaust.
I'm sure I'm forgetting a few things but those are the big ticket items needed.

Thanks man!

I'm getting fired up again about the jeep. It's been a much longer road than I thought when I bought it. And had I known I probably wouldn't have brought it home. But it's nice to see this phase of the project coming to a close ( one way or the other )

Small update.

This came back into the picture..
Image

I was wavering on the direction of my build. Looking at alternative beds and this m-715 dropped back into my lap.

Little back story:
I intended to build the M-715 but title issues and part costs quickly shut that Idea down.

Originally I bought the 81 J-10 to hang the 715 parts on, but I was under the impression that the truck was too nice to hack up, and I chickened out.
Well I'm over that, I want a military looking truck with the comforts and convenience of a civilian cab. So I'm doing it.

I currently have three piles.

Pile 1: Stuff going back on the jeep.

Pile 2: Stuff being sold.

Pile 3: Stuff being scrapped.

More to follow.

I don't see 3 piles. I see 1 pile.

:D

Those m175 had fold down windshileds, and what for a top?

Hush you! Back to your wiring! :P

This one had a sheet metal top, But i think originally they were supposed to have a metal frame under canvas.

Is it hard to find a soft top for m175? Do you just have one made? Do you have the 'skeleton' brackets * (edit: You called it a metal frame. Good term, beats mine) of the soft top?

Sadly I don't. And from what I've seen the metal frame ( bows ) aren't cheap or easy to find. My biggest issue is the state of Ohio not wanting to give me a title for it. So it's parts.

Seems like forever since I've posted.
Keeping the jeep.
Piles are sorted and disposed of.
New parts are accumulated.
Old parts are.. dusty..

Got the jeep back into the shop, and I'm puttering through part installs.

Dropped the tank, dumped it out and took it to the car wash.
Image

Probably the dirtiest car wash I've ever seen, my guess is power washing off-road toys here. I will bring the jeep here when I'm done.
Buick still stinks of rotten gas.. :-?

It'a amazing how easy life gets when the jeep is 6 feet in the air.
Image

Got started on installing the bulltear hand lapped oil pump guts and the stainless midplate.
I have to say for my previous issues with Bulltear's shipping and communication the part is good quality and the install went like clockwork.
Start to finish, maybe 30 minutes.
Here's what I yanked out.
Image

Both gears had similar wear, and not much at all.
Image
And the lower face.
Image
Again, according to some pics I've seen from other engines, minor wear.

I could have honestly not done this and been fine. But it's nice to know I have fresh parts in the pump.

More to come.

Thanks man

I'm in the home stretch with most of the big stuff behind me.
Got the tank back up and bolted in, new sending unit is also in.
Need to make new supply and return lines for fuel.
Thinking about replacing my poor battered trans cooling lines.. they look like someone got every very angry with them.
Put in an oversized oil drain plug. I've actually never done that before.. never had a stripped one.
Put my oil filter on and now the oil has a fighting chance of staying IN the engine. ( at least while it's sitting there. :P )
Got the Exhaust manifolds hung, need to tighten them down and give the y-pipe a swing.
And the biggest thing I did today.. was mount my brush guard.
I swear those things are a pain to wrestle into place solo.

My radiator cap is AWOL.. meh..

Tomorrow is pull the seats and carpet and get a look at the floor, fab up a seat bracket.
Mount the roll bar, and get all that sorted out.
Weld the exhaust flapper OPEN and give installing the y-pipe a shot time permitting. Then race to class at 6 pm..

Glad to hear you are keeping it. There is a Halloween meet where the ECI is held this fall. I think it is listed in the Eastern section here. I'm going to try to get the J20 there. The J10 will be going if it is roadable by then but I don't see that happening. I did talk to an engine builder today about doing my 401 for it.

Thanks man, been a real pain to get motivated.

Looked over the ECI post. NC in the fall sounds like fun, I'll do my best to be there.

What are you doing to your 401?
mild or wild?

We doing anything local like a get together?
WOT at my place? :D
