I recently acquired an 82 Jeep Cherokee (base) that my grandfather had sitting on a piece of old property. He gave the Jeep to me and said he would love to see it back on the road. I would love to get the Jeep back to road worthy and at least get him one ride in it. I got it drug outta the dirt and weeds and the frame is in really bad shape. The body, except for floor pans of course is still in really good shape and the interior isn't bad either. I looked into swapping the frame out for a full size truck frame but getting the truck seems like it would be more costly than fixing the factory frame. I would like to just replace the factory frame with another factory frame but have had no luck finding anything like that. If anybody could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it!

Welcome to the board.
You won't find a 'new' factory frame. But the good news is your 82 body will fit on a number of years of FSJ frames, including the Wagoneer. Someone with more knowledge will help with some of the details of what will be easiest to use.

Welcome to the asylum!
when you said that the frame is in bad shape, any particular spot, or plain surface rust?
Posting your location is useful, other can help you find a spare wagoneer for parts!

Thank you all, I'm located in southern, WV. The frame is rusted almost in two right in the middle of the frame on the drivers side and at the rear of the frame where the bumper mounts. It looks like, with a lot of work, it could be repairable, but don't know till I get the body off.

To 80Limited- Thank you, I would be willing to travel for parts if the price is right. Especially considering how hard it has been to find this particular part.

I don't know anything about the jeep trucks. were any of them 3/4 or 1 ton? Just an idea. I have other toys and work trailers, would be nice if it had the towing capabilities such as stronger frame and drivetrain.

J20's were 3/4 tons. But the frames are different from wagoneer/cherokee frames after the firewall.

The truck frames are all the same, as well, year for year. No difference between a J-10 or J-20 frame of a given year.
