Here We Go Again J10 Golden Eagle

I've done quite a few FSJ's and other AMC's over the years but I've never done one of these. I picked up a '78 J10 Golden Eagle 2 weeks ago and was just going to hold onto it but I kind of suck at sitting on my hands. So I tore it all apart the other night and got it ready for my paint and body guy to go to work.

It was an original Levi Interior which or will try to recreate as close as possible while making it a little more stylish and comfortable.

I'm also excited to announce that I've finally gotten on the tapatalk band wagon so I can start posting pics again. To remind you who I am, here are some of my other builds over the years before photobucket screwed us all.

Subscribing for updates! I always enjoy your builds. Are you planning on an LS powerplant?

Nope no LS in this one. The motor and trans has all been rebuilt. It has an unusual 4 barrel intake and an edelbrock carb. It gives it an amazing sounding idle.

I see someone else likes Golden Eagles as much as myself. If that Cherokee didn't have an LS I would have considered dropping the coin on it, beautiful rig. I'm excited to see this build!

I saw this J10 from work the other day, wasn't able to go down closer. But I actually like the color of this one, I do not like the brown ones at all.

That was the original color of the Cherokee. Looks pretty good.
And sorry you didn't like the LS swap. I just couldn't believe that someone would pay for the Golden Eagle upgrade but then skimp on motor etc. It had the straight 6 and a 3 speed manual. Booooooo

Oh no, don't get me wrong! I didn't not like the LS swap. Anything to make these old rigs more reliable is great. I'm just going for a more original approach with my GE build. Ever since my transmission incident I've been at a cross roads about whether to buy an already done FSJ or to just build my own how I want it and I have decided to just build my own. And I remember your Cherokee was an I6 rig, I've never seen a GE with that combo before and also not what I am going for in my GE build. Still, can't wait to see this one unfold! Will you be doing another LS swap or maybe something different? I think a HEMI swap would be neat

Nope no motor swap for this. It runs perfectly.
And no on the Eagle. It's gone. They're all gone.
I couldn't hold onto a vehicle to save my life.

Sadly no. It's still at my painters. I've been working on a firebird in my downtime.

You know me guys. I get projects stacked on top of each other. Have a few crazy months of late nights, turn around and theyre all sold and gone.
I finished this 78 Golden Eagle J10 and its off to new owner in Salt Lake City Utah.

So i know this started out as an original Levi interior truck, but the money just wasn't there to recreate it. So i pulled a SUPER clean interior out of an '82 parts Cherokee i have and put it in the J10 with new carpet, door panels and my famous/favorite leather dash conversion that i do on all my FSJ's. Looks great!

Man, those are some of the best looking FSJ door panels I've ever seen. Incredible!
For the leather dash upholstery - are you stretching the leather over the factory foam pad? Do you use an adhesive to bond it to the foam pad? It looks real sharp!

It is literally the same pattern as a levi interior door panel, but the chrome strips are gone, it is the newer style arm rest, and where the levi material would have been its just velour. But i do love how they turned out.
The dash first has to have the speaker hole filled. If its still intact you can fill it with bondo over the top and bottom, then sand smooth. I have run out of good dash pads so ive started fiberglassing the speaker hole and then covering with leather. Just clean and scuff the dash first then use spray adhesive on both the dash and leather. It sticks great. You have sew a seam across the ridge of the dash or else it will bunch up as you try to pull it around the backside. But the best part is that you can recover the dash with the same vinyl/leather youre using for the rest of your interior.
