Bit confused on transfer cases

Post by ZiRiu »

I have a leak on the rear output shaft of my t-case but I'm not sure which one I have and which oil it takes.

I have that style of shifter under the seat and the Jeep is a 1981. Only issue is apparently 1980(?)+ Jeeps had transfer cases that used the same AFT as the transmission but when I inspected the liquid on the ground it was somewhat thin and see through golden color not like ATF or gear oil but more like motor oil. I found a thread on ifsja mentioning the first few years of the new transfer cases used 10w-30 instead of ATF so is that what I have?

I also couldn't find a tag on the case saying which model it is.

Pretty sure it is a NP219 as that matches with the modes on the lever (4FT-4Hi-4Lo)

With 30 year old rigs you can never be sure. I left the 219 flag shifter in when I swapped in my 208.
