LS swaps - 4 low signal to ECM solutions

Post by j20brett »

Well, ive searched for 2 days and have found some results, but they aren't great. This is in regards to 4l60e/np241 swaps that do not have a vss on the trans output shaft, but rather in the tail housing of the tcase. You can go simple, and wire a toggle switch to activate the ground signal to the ecm letting it know you have engaged 4 low. or, you can rig up a break switch to activate the ground the switch is depressed.

Now, the solution I want to explore is the 4wd indicator switch in the tcase front half. I know mine was a 3 pin hookup. I need to do some digging and voltage test, but I wonder if that switch has the ability to indicate in 4 high and 4 low, separately? Anyone tried it yet?

Take the ohm meter to your 3 pin switch and I'm sure you can figure out a way to have it ground your ECM signal when in low range.

I havent done that yet, but I plan on getting to it. I have pics of my 4lo shifter activated ground switch on my build thread. I dodnt want to have a toggle switch for 4lo.

I still plan to look into this, but for the sake of time right now, I just wired a switch on the console for grounding.

What about using a brake light switch attached to your 4wd shifter instead?

Its one of those things that if I would have realized what needed to happen when I had the case split, I could have ground the detent on the indicator portion to only allow contact when in 4low. Hindsight is 20/20, and im sure not taking it back apart unless it breaks :)
