We'll be coming from the north, my Dear Wife and walking map/middle kid 9 years old have picked out a route to go around Denver, I need to get in route study mode myself. We'll have the 'burb and '73 starcraft popup so not much of a trailer. If we split up the Hill City to Ouray into 2 days I think we can go at a nice pace.
How bad do you want to avoid Denver? 285 is a good ride. Depending on the time of day 70 ain't bad either.

You know it's bad when your car is on the EPA's 10 most wanted list!
I will be doing the 285 drive this year on the way home. I have business on the west side of Denver.
Taz, I will most likely stay Mon night either in Canon City or Salida. Canon city will be my choice as they have the best shopping<wink wink>. I'll most likely be coming in from the fire roasted CO area southeast of denver.
I want to do the drive through the canyon about mid day. and roll into KOA around 4pm or sooner.
I'll be leaving Sunday and over nighting near Denver.
I've done the drive on I-70 to Grand Junction a few times and highly recommend it, if never done.
The drive on Rt. 50 from Canon City to Montrose is a must see as well. Watch for insane stupid traffic on Sunday mornings. I will not drive it then ever again. Lots of people in a huge hurry and doing insane passing to try and get ahead.
The 285 cutoff will be a new one for me. I have been all over CO when I did road work for the co. On their dime was the best part , other than getting to hang out alot with my Mountain Goat buddy that was raised back here in KY with me. He exists usually in between Boulder and Empire,CO.
Sean you should get here to KY and be my co-pilot. seriously.

Jeep is almost loaded... will start as early as can be to avoid the heat of the central valley. Cloud cover over Nevada claims a temp as low as 85 for the next 2 days...

85 Gwag (229 Kmiles... the running test lab)
I think we are gonna leave early Tuesday morning and head down Buena Vista, CO via HWY 285. Then 'wheel to Mirror Lake via Tin Cup Pass. Do a little fishing, then 'wheel over to Gunnison, CO then take the HWY down to Ouray.

I posted up shirt $ amounts for all Limited Edition Flesh Wound shirts and a PayPal address to send to for those who can. Otherwise we can square up in cash at Ouray.

Looks like we're doing 125 down to 70, staying to the west, we were looking at 285 at one point, maybe on the way back.
Hi, I'm new to the forum but I've been reading it to help repair my Jeep for the last year and a half. I thought about Ouray last year and have made a last minute decision to join all of you this year. Hopefully I get my Jeep fixed with minor issues (who needs rear drums anyway?) and will be there Sun. 7/14 to Sat 7/20. I'm looking forward to meeting all attending. -Steve
