Running a york and a sandeen

Post by husker77 »

So my 88 has the york compressor for the ac and the 91 parts waggy has the sandeen for the same function. I have always been under the impression that the sandeen is a more efficient and effective ac compressor, so I was going to swap it into the 88. But I would like to also modify the york to be a oba compressor. Has their ever been any factory mounts to put either of these compressors any place other than the upper right had side of the engine? It looks like I might be able to fit one down low on the left side under the power steering pump, I think that originally there might have been an air pump there for smog.

^I don't know the answer to your question. But, I can tell you that the spot below the PS pump you mentioned is where my air pump is located.

Once upon a time there was a guy in Louisiana who made and sold a bracket for dual compressors- side by side. I have never been successful in getting one or ever talking to someone who has used one. I do have some pictures that were sent to me by someone on IFSJA

been *thinking* of doing this for years now... it's in the 'someday' pile. I never felt quite satisfied with belt routing options.

Haha, that's my picture. I still have that mount and like j10jim I have yet to install it. I'm also contemplating running a Sanden for my AC with the York pulling air compressor duty.

I just converted to a Sanden in my '77 Cherokee and I like it over the York. No vibrations at idle and you can hardly feel it kick on at idle. I don't even have the idle speed solenoid working and I don't think I need it with the Sanden.
