Can anybody find specs for these vacuum advance canisters?

Post by Nikkormat »

Ok guys so the VC1810, 09, and 12 are officially defunct and removed from computers everywhere. Delco also no longer producing there number for the 1810. So, after some internet dredging here are the promising part numbers so far. The only issue is that I cant find vacuum specs for any of the cans. So anybody with information on these cans PLEASE chime in. These are for the delco points distributors, FYI.

Is this a Delco distributor? What are you aiming to do?

I had thought that all the Delco points distributors use the same type of vacuum advance canister. Accel, Crane and likely others sell replacement adjustable vacuum advance cans for the Delcos. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/acc-31034/overview/

The OEM parts should be marked with total advance - http://www.superchevy.com/how-to/97438/ - and here is a thread that steps you through using a timing tape to set the vacuum and mechanical advance on AMC engines. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f8/ask-j ... ad-674001/

They are marked for total advance, but not for where the advance stops and ends. What level of vacuum it takes to fully advance, ECT...

The canister I have is a "universal" or the one that a parts store will sell you. The problem is that the advance starts at 9 inches and isn't fully advanced until 20 inches of vacuum. My motor and cam at this altitude only pulls around 13-14 inches maximum. So my vacuum advance is doing diddly squat. The vacuum advance I need is a 1810, it starts advancing at 3.5 inches and is fully advanced at 10 inches. But the 1810 is discontinued as well as the two closest equivalents. So these new numbers are off of pre smog manifold vacuum hi perf motors using the delco distributor. One of them should have advance specs similar to what I and others need.

These numbers are from...

Early 70's 8.4 liter eldorados
Early 70's AMX And Ambassador Police
Studebaker Super Hawks
And 454 Corvettes

Why do people want to run an 1810 and manifold vacuum?

Sorry, I'm an engineer, so I can't relate to that article (just kidding). Looks interesting - I will read it when I get a chance.

JMO - I would give up and put spark under electronic control.

I would like to. Actually if this doesn't work out I'll build a motorcraft 4 pin hei ignition for as cheap as possible. The correct advance module IS available for the motorcrafts.
