Custom 63-72 gauges??? Anybody have pics?

Post by Landman_MTX »

I know Dakota digital has replacement clusters but I just can't get myself to warm up to digital gauges. Have any of you guys done custom gauge clusters with the combo gauges? If so please post up pics!!! Let me see whats been done!

Don't have pictures but Zach from Z & M does a really nice job making custom clusters for these trucks. He uses autometer gauges and they look really slick. Will try to get a picture of it soon.

I for some reason thought those clusters were for the later dash styles. I'll have to look into that. Pics if anyone has them!

Jim was sharing the dash pix at the Ouray KOA in 2012. Looks clean.

Do you want $1000 instruments or a $4000 Atlas. Oh, you already made that choice. ;)

I believe my dad had to contact him about getting it made but I'm not for certain. As for a picture I'm in the process of getting that right now.

Yes and now the Jeep is FINALLY painted. I am putting it back together. I don't think it will be much of an issue in really deep canyons. I doubt this will get into a canyon that deep that it won't receive at least 1 sat signal, but if it does then hey free mileage! :)

Here's my solution. I didn't want to lose the stock gauge angle, and wanted a bunch of gauges. Came up with the below after a bunch of trial and error. The only good way to make it work was to stack the gauges.

http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=173649

I'm using some 3/16 thick aluminum plate from some old breaker cabinets.

Image

Fit's right down into the stock dash.

Image

Here you can see what I mean by stacked. Speedometer on top, and each successive layer underneath to clear the gauge bezels.

Image

Sanded off the old paint that was on the scrap and then gave it a nice brushed finish.

Image

Original dash requires very slight modifications. Just file the top edge in three spots as shown until the gauges fit.

Image

The additional holes in the panel are for turn signals, warning lights, brights etc.....

Image

So you get 5 gauge spots. 1 - 3 3/8" and 4 - 2 1/16". I'll have a Speedometer, Tachometer, Oil Pressure, Water Temp, Voltmeter, and fuel gauge.

Not quite sure how I'm going to attach the panel yet. I'm waiting for the rest of my gauges to arrive. I might tig some sort of bracket onto the back or find some sort of clip.

I am kicking around the idea to keep the center speedo and put a pair of quad gauges on the outsides:

They have another with oil pressure and volts. I don't have a stock transfer case so I don't need the 4wd light.
