I don't have an ecu yet but I am aware that I will need one from a manual.
I have not attempted to marry the engine and trans with the flex plate bolted to the motor yet. I was so discouraged after finding that it didn't fit the torque converter I stepped away for a few days.
At one point i had considered drilling the holes to fit the 727. That was actually my first reaction but something in my head told me to double check before I screwed something up.
Why won't the 258 flex plate for the 727 work? Is it because my starter is the newer style xj, starter?

The 258 flywheel wont have the CPS ring on it, meaning you'll have to do aftermarket.
I personally would not be afraid to take a die grinder and oblong the bolt holes for it to bolt up. Mark each one so your taking the same amount of material out of each hole so the balance stays close.
It almost bolts up. That's why it's so tempting to drill it!
I've had multiple people say modify the plate I have now and I think that's what I'm going to try. It seems like a better option than trying ever flexplate in the torque flite family

Seems like an unusual combo but it really doesn't involve that many specialty parts.
I used the trans and t case I already have. Purchased a flex plate and fsj motor mounts for my 4.0. A fuel system for efi. Computer and wiring harness.
Pretty simplistic once the research and trial and error are worked out

It needs to be an HO EFI. The remix system won't work for what you want.
