My first FSJ

Post by JETWAG73 »

Hello FSJN. I am new to the site and new to Wagoneers. Currently own a 98 xj and previously an 85 cj7.
I'm trying to figure out my 73 and would like to restore it back to stock including paint. It's a 73 with a cream interior with what I believe to be alpaca brown paint under a rattle can military green exterior. The rear quarter panels have been modified but I intend to install new aftermarket. My biggest question is, how can I find out what options it was originally sold with. I haven't seen too many brown 73's rolling around so I am wondering how rare this Wag is. It has bucket electric seats but I think they're not original. The middle armrest is cream color like the rear bench seat and door panels.

Under the hood is the original 360 paired with the TH400 and a quadratrac 1339 with a part time kit( which I'm also trying to make sense of. There are two vin numbers associated with the Wag which Mach the paperwork so I assume that's a plus.

Any comments or suggestions are welcomed as I plan on emmer sing myself in the Wag world. Great to be on board

Hey Bud, welcome to the Network... Image

With photos, I use Photobucket. You copy a link and can position it anywhere in the reply you want it. Plus, some sites dont host pics (IFSJA.org) and its the only way to post them there. Plus its free. ;)

Welcome,
Do you have the paint and trim codes on the firewall as usual ?
I can decode them if you want
With the VIN (at least the beginning) you'll know also if it's a "custom" or a standard wagoneer
We can also provide a list for the options available in '73
J10 81, J10 77, CJ7 80, Gladiator 64, Wagoneer 65, ZJ 5.9
parts vehicles : wagoneer 63, cherokee Golden eagle

It's a nice "custom" ("15" in the VIN)
Front seats or bumpers are indeed not original, looks like the V8 emblems on the fenders are missing
Paint : "copper tan", trim : "buff vinyl and cloth bucket seats"
Major options for a '73 , i assume it's a quadratrac : power brakes, power steering, power window-tailgate, HD cooling & springs, AM radio, air conditioning, wood grain trim, shoulder belts..
"custom" has a special interior trim, exterior moldings, plus wheel covers, courtesy light, cigar lighter

Thanks for the info mud98. It's going to take some time and money but I think I'll be really pleased when its all done. You're right about the quadratrac and power options, although I'll have to find a tailgate with the power window cause it came with a crank roll up out of a Cherokee. Also I only have lap belts.

Thank you for this link! Just bought a 1973 Full time QT a week ago. I'm on a steep learning curve for my Waggy & this information is very helpful!!

Very nice! Great color and the interior isn't too thrashed. What are your plans for it?
