I was given an OEM under dash AC unit out of a Donor FSJ. Besides the compressor and hoses is there anything else needed? Is it a stand alone unit and if so anything special I need to make it work?. Do's or Don'ts?
I have never put one in, but my J10 has one. Its pretty much stand alone. The fan and temp control are on the unit itself. The mouse wheel is inside of it. It has the two hoses, in and out that go to the compressor and condenser. It needs a 12V line going to it, I would advise putting a fuse (or using the factory fuse location).
Thanks for the input... looks really basic but I only have the AC part of it and didnt know what else was needed. Sounds like a Compressor and condenser is it... Anyone second that?
What year are you working on? I have the factory "American Air" AC manual that covers 1975-79. I think the systems stayed the same until around 83. I have it scanned as a .pdf Might be too large of a file to email. It has all the info that is in the TSM, but goes a little more in depth. Let me know and I will try to email it to you. I can always burn it on a CD and mail down south also.

How big is it? May be worth adding to the tech archives on the main site.
Awesome, thanks for doing this guys, it will be an awesome reference for us...
My '85 GW had the same unit that my '77 J-10 had, so I would be willing to say they were the same up to the change in dash styles.
There should be a receptical in the stock fuse panel for the power wire coming from the unit.
I know its only been a couple of days but I'm curious if this info. was transferable or not? Looking forward to studying it... Thanks for all the effort on this!
So I spent a few minutes tonight cleaning and changing the color of the AC unit from brown to black and silver. Think it will now blend in to the surroundings much better now. Anxious now to find a condenser to mount in front of the huge replacement radiator that I will be installing here soon.
bringing this back from the dead,
I've searched and used my google foo and to no avail.
I've done a complete rewiring on my 79 Chero with an EZ wiring harness.
This is the last item left to do.
My AC has two wires A red and blue one.
which goes where.
My new harness has the compressor wire already on it.
as well as an ac compressor going to the dash area.
any help would be awesome.
