I believe a "999" could equal two choices for 1971.
Baja Yellow or Riverside Orange

Shrug could be wrong too, nice waggy though!

Thanks for info , in any case these two colors are not also in the regular colors list for 1971

For the interior trim, i don't have specific codes for the 1971 1414X, the codes for the 1414 and 1414C are as follows : 312, 313, 314, 315, 316, 317, 326, 327, 328

The name of the woodgrain package was different in 71 : "wood grain accessory"

Thanks for the info. The vin is 1414x39600221. The 360 engine was built on June 2nd 1971 as per the Amc tag in the engine. Please let me know if you come up with anymore info.

Congrats! certainly one of the very last 1414X, since Jeep started the '72 production on August 1971
The 221 th with a 360
The yellow sticker on the door jamb has also a production date, but maybe the sticker is no more on the truck.
We can decode the trim code from the VIN plate if you want

Thanks mud 89 for the info. From what I have been able to find the only options available for this vehicle in 71 was a\c and limited slip differential. This one has both. I will have to get the interior code off the firewall this week to see if you have any info. Also will post some interior pics. Right now it is on a 2 point lift so it is hard to open the doors to get good pics. I will also see if the yellow tag is on the driver pillar. Any and all info is helpful.

Build number in the VIN is regardless of engine, it only included year and body code. His is the 221st 1971 1414X of any engine.

Early 1971 had the Buick 350, late 1971 had the AMC 360. The change happened halfway through production.

His was built very late in 1971 production, but the build is only 221, so they probably made less than 300 1971 1414X's total, and probably less than half had the 360. Most 1971 V8 FSJ's you see are 350's.

That makes this 1971 1414X with a 360 one of <150 cars produced. How many do you think survive today? I give 10% max. I know of one other 1971 360 1414X, and it actually has the factory winch.

It's a rare one. Jeep didn't keep very good documentation of the 1414X models because they were not supposed to be actual production; they were more of dealer promotion models to get people into the showroom, but rich eople bought them anyway. A lot of the documentation got mixed up in the AMC and Chrysler takeovers. We just don't know much about the 1414X models. We can only piece together what we can find out from surviving ones, like yours.

You should also know that someone paid well over $6400 for your Jeep new. That's twice the base price and would have bought a really nice Cadillac, Imperial, or Lincoln back then.
1972 Wagoneer: 360 2V, THM-400, D20, D30 closed knuckle, D44 Trac-lok 3.31.
1965 Rambler Ambassador: 327 4V, BW M-10 auto, AMC 20 3.15.
1973 AMC Ambassador: 360 4V, TC-727.
1966 AMC Marlin 327 4V, T-10 4 speed, AMC 20 Powr-lok 3.54.

Before '72, the VINs were not model year dependent, you can't know the model year from the VIN, except if you have the production records with the serial numbers (SN) month by month
In '71, you had both SN like 303,xxx (Buick) and 600,xxx (360 AMC), if the SN were not engine dependent (except for the first digit), the '71 buick SN should look like 300,xxx instead of 303,xxx
edited: My guess for 1971 (calendar year) is a couple hundred of Buicks and a couple hundred of 360, low production figures anyway
