As promised.

Patriot trail:

In this pic I have a snapped front axle shaft. I was able to exit the trail in three wheel drive, along with a winch, and pulled out a winch anchor.

Backyard. Best I could find since I don't have a ditch.

The CJ does have FSJ axles (NT D44's) and a TF727, which is getting pulled next spring, and some other FSJ parts. I quit rock crawling because it got boring. The front trac bar does limit articulation a bit, that I have never denied. It's just the benefits outweigh the costs, by a bunch. The CJ tracks strait down the road, even at 75 mph and the steering is really tight and responsive. Part of that is the 95' Caprice steering box, but the Jeep handles scary sloppy without the trac bar.

The biggest issue with STOCK FSJ suspension (I am not including the post mount springs here) is the rear shackle limits droop. Jeep put trac bars on the GW for a reason. They greatly improve handling, but don't limit the offroad ability. One of these days, I'll get the Cherk on the road with front and rear sway bars and trac bars and the articulation will be more than adequate not to mention I will be able to out corner other FSJ's.

I've been wheeling for 15 years in four different vehicles. I have also studied suspension design and have coursework in vehicle dynamics. What you got?

That's right, I forgot that every single professional offroad rig is still running leaf springs for all its benefits! While I can appreciate your coursework, it doesn't always equate to real world. I earned almost 80 credits in ME before I went into the automotive world working for Audi. I've probably done 25-30 classes through Audi for anything from suspension to transmissions. I've also got more than 15 years of wheeling experience and I've also built many rigs. Actually, I own my own shop now days and live the dream every day I walk into work. I build performance cars and offroad rigs for a living.

I'll be sure and ask for your input next time I'm trying to add a trac bar to a customers leaf spring suspension.

PS: Please keep this thread about photos of flex. Any discussion on suspension design and what is better should have its own topic in the proper tech area.

Hold your camera lower (center line with the vehicle). When you are standing you end up looking down at it, always throws the angle off.
