NP208AM transfer case to 700R4

Post by Boscodad »

Searched, haven’t found info. I recently bought a dead J10 with 360/727/208 power train. A new ignition module got it running but only on 7 cylinders. Further inspection turned up 4 bent pushrods, a collapsed lifter, flat cam and about 10 pounds of sludge. Since I intend to make frequent round trips between Texas & Wisconsin I decided to go with a Chevy/700R4 engine and trans (I already had a fresh 383, although I will need to get a smaller cam). I would like to keep the 208 transfer case and adapt the 700R4 to it. I bought a 700R4 with 241C transfer case, but the adapter doesn’t seem to clock correctly on the 208. Has anyone done this swap, and what adapter did you use? A part number would really be helpful. Side note- I have the 360 with good 727 trans for sale locally on Craigslist.
Thanks in advance

You can use a Chevy 208 with a clocking ring.

I’m going from 30 year old memories on the spline count on the jeep tcase so I make no promises I’m right on the following.

If you like the jeep 208 you can change the input to a Chevy one or advance adapters makes an output shaft for the transmission that fits the jeep 208 but that requires disassembly of the trans to install.

Last but not least is this option.

PS: welcome aboard!!!
The bus I ride is so short it is a yellow Smart Car full of squirrels, monkeys and clowns.

True, the Chevy spline cound is different. IDK, if a NV241C input will install into the Jeep NV208. Isn't the Jeeps using 21 & 23 splines and Chevy smaller cases use the 27?
