borg warner 1339 emergency drive

Does anyone know if one could swap out the emergency drive diaphragm and indicator switch on top of the transfer case (BW 1339) while installed or do you have to remove the the TC to make the swap?
Problem: The Emergency drive switch in the glove box , when switched back and fourth, will not light up the ED gauge light. But , when driving along, the light intermittently lights up ,and moving the glovebox switch a little clockwise will extinguish the light. I do notice a little binding and difficulty turning a tight turn. I 've only had the wagoneer for a few months and am finally getting around to diagnosing the problem. Any thoughts are appreciated.

Check your vacuum lines to the switch first.

use a vacuum pump to check the action of the lock out diaphragm integrity.

No need to remove the back of the case to change the system, but be familiar with the system, IIRC there is a small ball bearing that need to be secured with a magnet, check fulsizjeep pages...
