If this is happening now, I am going to have to change user permissions to where you cannot PM unless you have X number of posts. Never been a fan of that, but may have to do it.

can you make it so they can't send more than 1 PM until they have more than xxx posts?

I hear both you guys. I think there's a real person defeating the capcha and then handing it off to a bot, but depending on where it's coming from it may be a real persons job.

I don't like the post limit either, since there's lots of non-posters doing business in the classifieds, but agree that it may be necessary. I love that you've given us this board Stuka, and screening new members should definitely NOT be a full time job. Tad tried on the motherboard and he quickly lost love for all of this.

I agree y'all do a great job and have created a very informative place for us to learn, share and hang out. Unfortunately I don't think you will ever be able to block all of the most determined spammers or trolls for that matter. I don't know that I would stress it to much from what I've seen recently anyway. Maybe if it gets worse, but I don't honestly know what more you could do.

I agree 'shed.

HOWEVER! I found one way to identify spammers quickly! I went to the "members" list, sorted by "Join Date", and found that nearly every website the zero-posters list is blatant spam or in a foreign language. For instance:

uzicab joined January 8th, has no posts, but lists "nl.muscle-building.eu" as his website.
yfeko joined January 12th, has no posts, but lists "pl.muscle-building.eu" as his website.
oryxyvu joined January 24th, has no posts, but lists "cz.erection-problems.eu" as his website.

These are obvious spam, and I'm betting the nl vs pl in the first two is how the spammers track which spams generate the most traffic.

Some others may be legit, but really raise a eyebrow like:
Fueling001 joined February 4th, has no posts but was online for 45 minutes, and lists "noilcorp.com" as his website. It may be spam (which is a business, and companies pay advertising firms to do it), but it may also be a guy that's really proud of his job.

Yeah I go through the user list from time to time to clean up. Need to do it again. You should see the list of inactive users, that catches most of the spam bots there.

Thanks!

Stuka, what's the word on a member list scrub? Last night, a zero-poster named "autohitism" that joined back in August went on a spam rampage (spampage?). He (or "it") left the whole forum an unreadable mess as he reanimated about 20 zombie threads.

I deleted autohitism and all his posts (which thankfully is an option when deleting the user). Sorry, wasn't on the forum yesterday, so wasn't able to catch it sooner.

I have a list of things that need to be done to the forum (some updates, changes, and so on). Just need to plan them out.

There is a feature in tapatalk that allows you to both Ban and Delete all the users posts.

I tried that this morning when I saw all those posts, but my internet connection is not that great when I don't have the generator running powering the Verizon LTE home router, so I was left with just a tiny bit of service on my phone.
