Had the right gas, and it was turned on. I remembered this time. There are welds on both sides. It is just the side you can see that bubbled. Cleaned the metal before welding alsoderf wrote:Looks good Don.
Bubbles like that in the weld usually means you got some contamination, either through dirty material or a lack of shrouding gas (or both). It compromises the integrity of the weld. It might be good enough to hold in the long term. But it wouldn't hurt to go back at some point and re-weld them. I'd hate to see it let go when you needed it the most.
When I was welding the bumper I was outside because it was nice out and yeah, had problems with the wind blowing away the shielding gas. Moved welding operations to inside the garage and just had to sweat. These hooks were welded inside.Tatsadasayago wrote:Might have been a breeze blowing when you did that side?
I fought that with my welder once. There was just enough air movement to blow the gas away from the weld.
Nice looking bumper and mods. The tow hook idea is very clever.
