Calling Wrangler JKU Owners

Post by HeavyMetalThunder_81 »

Quick question. My wife has a 2014 Wrangler JK Unlimited. I need another forum membership like I need another hole in my head. Plus a lot of the Wrangler forums are either full of idiots or sarcastic asses. So, I thought I'd ask you fine folks.

Does anyone know how large of a tire I can fit on a JK Unlimited with STOCK WHEELS and WITHOUT using spacers? I don't mind lifting the Jeep a bit but the wife really likes the stock Rubicon wheels and wants slightly larger tires. The Jeep sees mostly paved roads with the occasion puddle jump or light trail run.

Of course, any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Any brand 265's with no spacers. For 285's, it depends on the tire. Some are wider than others.

If they rub, it will be on the sway bar end links at full lock. Adjusting the steering stops can fix this.

EDIT: They will also rub offroad, but should be fine on the street.

Thanks!

They will be BFGoodrich All-Terrains. I know they usually run a tad bit smaller than most.

I'm thinking 285/70R17 BFGoodrich All-Terrains and maybe a 2"-2.5" lift?

Yeah, BFG's will be fine. If you just want a little bit of lift, throw a leveling kit on. 2" front, 1" rear.

I'm looking at TeraFlex's 2.5" budget boost.

Do note that the budget boost really only saves money on springs. I have run the 2.5" budget boost, and here is what I ended up needing to do in addition to it:

1: I Needed lower front control arms to get caster back into spec, steering was flighty. Not everybody needs this, but I sure did.
2: Front adjustable track bar
3: Rear track bar bracket
4: You may need exhaust spacers up front

For my new JK I am going to go with AEV this time. I have always run TeraFlex stuff, and installed several of their kits (including full 8 arm kits). And I really like them. Their support is awesome, and they have replaced stuff that is actually out of warranty.

This time I want to try AEV as I want to see how their geometry brackets work out up front. Supposedly gets rid of dive during braking, and makes it so you don't need exhaust spacers. Probably still run the TeraFlex tracbars and such, as they are super beefy.

Perfect. Exactly the info I was looking for. I ran into the same problems with my old 2nd Gen Cummins. This is why I hate Wranglers

Its just something you have to deal with when it comes to having coil suspension. Leaf springs are certainly WAY simpler. But coils are just so much more superior in every other way. I would be hard pressed to go back to leaf springs for offroad use, my JK's have hands down spoiled me.

BTW: not sure what town you live in, but if you want help with the lift, let me know. Modesto and such is only an hour from me.

I agree it's far superior, but also expensive to lift.

I'm out in the Lemoore/Hanford area.
