Started on the Intake and Carb swap today

Post by American Grouch »

We'll I got started.

Pulled the stock carb and intake today. Down to scraping gasket now. Had to stop short of where I wanted to for family reasons.

I decided to order a new thermostat housing from bulltear, and then realized I needed new bolts too. This is where things maybe got funky.

I ordered the bolts, new thermostat, and gaskets from here:http://www.o.teamgrandwagoneer.com/cgi- ... thermostat

Note the web address. I hadn't noticed the o.teamgrandwagoneer.com until after the order.

I hadn't realized there were two teamgrandwagoneer.com websites.

Here's the other one:http://www.teamgrandwagoneer.com

Hopefully the first one is as squared away as the second one whom I've ordered from before.

Anyway, this is my firs time doing this, my 12yo son is learning as much as I am as we go through this.

The grommet for the 2131 intake is on the way, didn't realize I was going to need that. A new PCV valve, and a few other odds and ends.

Because the fuel input on the 1406 is on the side where the electric choke is I realize I'll need to modify the fuel line. I already have the Edlebrock fuel filter but now I think I need the line extension. Could someone confirm that I need part number Edelbrock 8134? Or something else? Thanks for any input or suggestions.

My son is eating this up, have to say dad is enjoying it too!

Great job. Always fun for a father and son project. Let us know how it goes. Looking to do this on my 1990 soon.

I just used the rubber fuel line, no need for an adapter. While you are spending as much as you have so far, do a little mora ne complete a TFI upgrade. Great start for you and your son, mine is stil very young but always wants to get his hands dirty too.

Nice! carb and intake swaps can be as quick or as time consuming as you want them to be. When it's a father/son project the latter ain't a bad thing. ;)

Hopefully this summer after I move to Kentucky I can start a project with my boy! He's 10 and wants to be a NASCAR driver, so I'm thinking about building a Hornet class car with him for when he's old enough.

3/4 resto, rotting faster than I've been fixing it.
