My First Wagoneer

Post by oakknoll »

I have owned J-Trucks since 1979, but never a Wagoneer. Yesterday I got this one from an Estate. It is a 1982 with a 258 and a 4-speed. It has been stored in a barn since 1985, and has not been out in a couple of years. I took about a 1/2 inch of dust off it and gave it a quick coat of wax and it came out pretty well.

I'd say it's kept pretty well over the years.

Nice find!. We would like to see interior and under hood photos, please. I hope the sitting time has not created any dry rot issues and it retains all it's fluids.

It is surprisingly dry underneath. The engine drips a little. But rot is claiming the rear quarters and there is a lot of rust underneath. Here are some pictures of under the hood and the interior:

I had to replace the directional switch, fix the horn button, replace a bunch of bulbs and tighten one front wheel bearing that had backed off and it passed inspection with flying colors. There is no smog inspection here for vehicles without onboard computers. :-bd

It does look nice on the topside. I hope the underside is not too bad. Congrats on the tag. :-bd
